Job Description:

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Health & Safety Technician located in Orange, Texas

This position provides full time Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) support to all contractors at both the Sabine River and Beaumont sites to drive excellence in the safe execution of work. The successful candidate will focus on ensuring all contractor work is performed safely, and that the contract companies have the appropriate management systems in place to accomplish this. This is to be accomplished through implementation of and compliance with various safety programs (i.e. policies/standards, effective procedure use, job safety analysis, etc.). Safety performance of contractor personnel shall be assessed, and improvement opportunities identified and implemented. A large portion of this individual's responsibility is to be in the field working with the contractors to ensure the safety of personnel, including proper application and understanding of the safety standards, recognition of hazards and correcting unsafe behaviors, activities and conditions and ensuring appropriate management systems are in place to drive improvements in performance.



Responsibilities / Duties

* Meet EH&S performance metrics for the site, especially with respect to the area of contractor safety.
* Act as a focal point for the contractor companies for implementation and compliance to specific EH&S disciplines (i.e. industrial hygiene, personal safety, etc.).
* Interacts with contractors on safety policies and procedures to drive understanding and proper application.
* Coach contractor companies on safety programs to improve performance to meet or exceed site EH&S performance metrics.
* Work closely with contractor companies to ensure a good understanding of safety requirements as well as ensure contractor company's management systems are robust.
* Support plants in pre-job safety reviews with contractors.
* Drive the implementation of contractor management systems to a level necessary to achieve injury free performance.
* Lead contractor safety meetings and participate in safety meetings held by contract companies.
* Focal point for communication to the contractors for safety alerts and key learnings from global, site and business events.
* Conduct self-assessment for compliance to site and global safety policies and correct deficiencies.
* Coaches contractor companies on medical protocol and proper case management, to ensure contractor employees are properly cared for and treated for all incidents.
* Participate in incident investigations and corrective action process
* Initiates and supports Management of Change (MOC) for EH&S matters as necessary, ensuring the contractor companies understand and properly implement applicable changes.
* Identify opportunities to streamline EH&S resources and work processes.
* Interface with Contract Administrators for contractor safety and training issues.
* Maintain a high level of customer focus.


The Dow Chemical Company does not offer relocation assistance for this position. This includes reimbursement for travel expenses incurred to and from test sessions/interviews. Required Qualifications:

* A minimum of 5 years of Health & Safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial role, preferably in a petrochemical/chemical plant environment OR A minimum of 5 years in a chemical plant experience, preferably with some contractor safety experience.
* Must be 18 years old or older.
* Must be willing to work weekends, and holidays, if required.
* Must be willing to work overtime (extra hours beyond your regular scheduled) if required.
* A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.



Preferred Qualifications:

* Excellent knowledge of safety standards/ policies / practices and willingness to coach others on those practices.
* Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email and have the ability to learn new systems quickly.

* Excellent interpersonal skills, including good coaching skills
* Demonstration of the ability to solve problems and make decisions.
* Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.

* Ability to develop and implement EHS work processes
* Able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
* A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.

Physical Requirements:

Must be willing and able to do the following with or without a reasonable accommodation.
* Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes
* Wear and use respirators.
* Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.
* Stand or walk for extended periods of time.



Education:

* A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
