Job Description:

Job Summary


An Associate Gas Technician at Maine Natural Gas (MNG) is responsible for completing monthly electronic and manual meter reading of MNGs customers. In addition, an Associate Gas Technician will train in and assist with carrying out the tasks required for the safe construction, operation, and maintenance of MNGs Transmission system, Distribution systems, Metering & Regulating Stations, and District Regulator Stations.



Major Roles & Responsibilities



  • Perform all duties associated with monthly meter reading.
  • Report any Abnormal conditions.
  • Paint meters that have rust and corrosion.
  • Perform credit and collection activities including locking/unlocking meters as required.
  • Process and complete required work orders for all meter related work.
  • Support and assist operations staff with:
  • Operation and maintenance of city gate metering and regulating stations
  • Operation and maintenance of district regulator stations
  • Operation and maintenance of customer meter and regulators
  • Meter installation and reading
  • Inspection of work performed by contractors i.e. HVAC, Construction, Corrosion etc.
  • Locating facilities in response to Dig Safe calls / QAQC of contractor Dig Safes
  • Perform Gas Analysis and Safety Demonstrations
  • Electronic and Paper Record keeping in accordance with all MNGs procedures




  • Job Requirements


    Required Education:
    • High School Diploma/GED required.
    • Relevant work experience may be substituted for education beyond High School.
    • Maine Fuel License or CETEP courses are a plus but not required at hire date.



    Required Experience/Training:
    • 1-3 years' work experience, Construction, utility, or other relevant experience
    • Must possess a valid, Maine driver's license. If coming from out-of- state, shall possess a valid driver's license in the state of residence and obtain a Maine license within three months of starting work.
    • Must have the ability to obtain valid Maine Fuel Board Propane and Natural Gas Technician License (PNT) within 3 years of hiring.
    • Must have the ability to obtain valid OSHA 10 certification within 1 years



    Required Abilities:
    • Walking long distance
    • Standing for long periods of time




    Additional Responsibilities


    A Company vehicle is assigned to each Gas Technician it shall be their responsibility to:
    • Operate the vehicle courteously and in accordance with all laws of the
    • State of Maine or any other state if out-of-state travel is required.
    • Keep the vehicle clean and neat to project a good company image
    • Assure that the vehicle receives the necessary repairs, periodic
    • Maintenance, complete monthly internal inspections, and state inspections to keep it operating safely and reliably.
