The Materials Manager is responsible for all planning, procurement, and controlling of raw materials, finished goods, and supplies based on customer needs. This position will be responsible for inventory management, cycle count accuracy, production scheduling, maintaining on-time customer shipments, and supplier quality and performance standards. In addition, this position provides vital leadership in the areas of waste elimination and continuous improvement within the operation.


Your Day To Day:



  • Maintain a safe work environment and be accountable for safe work practices

  • Manage flow of materials including procurement of raw materials, inventory control, cycle counts, production scheduling, and supplier quality

  • Work closely with SIOP in support of the fulfillment process from inventory planning to material procurement, production scheduling, and warehouse inventory

  • Coordinates with SIOP to develop plans to manage inventory levels and production requirements based on the RCCP

  • Directs production planning and scheduling

  • Analyze and optimize planning parameters in the MRP system

  • Oversee all shipping and receiving functions

  • Develop Kanban systems including pull signals, material flow, and stocking levels

  • Identify opportunities to eliminate waste in the material value stream

  • Maintain proper inventory levels for both raw materials and finished goods to meet business plans and forecasts/stocking levels

  • Lead improvements to supplier quality and performance standards

  • Implement processes and controls to ensure accuracy of inventory cycle counts for materials and finished goods with the capability of identifying discrepancies and conducting root cause corrective actions

  • Monitor and control slow moving and obsolete inventory

  • Ensure on time and accurate customer shipments

  • Minimize waste through efficient warehouse design, storage, and shipping practices

  • Operate as a lean leader focused on continuous improvement and developing a culture of learning to see and eliminate waste

  • Establish high standards for 5S and organization

  • Develop, analyze, and communicate key performance indicators and standards of performance for shipping, receiving, and materials management


What you bring to the Team:



  • Bachelor's degree or 8 years of professional experience in lieu of a degree with a minimum of 5 years' experience in warehouse and inventory management in a manufacturing environment, 2 years of supervisory experience, and 1 year of purchasing and forecasting experience

  • Experience in adhering to quality management systems, including proven analytical and quality improvement ability

  • Experience maintaining a safe work environment

  • Working knowledge of SAP or ERP warehouse management systems

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

  • Solid understanding of supply chain and inventory management systems with the ability to develop inventory systems and reporting

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Ability to support after hour calls and work extended hours

  • Solid project management skills

  • Effective leader of people with the ability to coach and develop the team

  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Ability to interface at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally

  • Moderate travel required (11 -- 29 days per year)

  • May be required to lift, carry, push or pull up to and including 25 pounds

  • Manages a staff of 18 hourly/ 1 salary employees, sets direction and deploys resources. Responsible for performance evaluations, pay reviews, hiring, and terminating.

  • Preferred qualification APICS CPIM certified


Work environment is typical of an office setting. When in a manufacturing facility or warehouse, may be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc.
