Key Responsibilities:


  • Obtains specific work assignments by reading job numbers on production control chips placed on machines. Locates pans of fasteners with corresponding job numbers in holding area, and moves pans to work area.
  • Obtains specifications for work required on fasteners by reading part number and dimensions on lot traveler card and shop drawing.
  • Verifies that fasteners are ready for trimming, etc., by comparing head markings (when present) and dimensions of fasteners to descriptions on shop drawing, and by inspecting fasteners for damage. Reports any discrepancies to immediate supervisor.
  • Sets-up machines.
  • Selects proper machine parts and tooling such as knockout pins, transfer fingers, carrier, die and punch set, etc.
  • Prepares machine parts and tooling as required for proper positioning and trimming, etc., of fasteners by reducing shuttles, transfer fingers, knockout pins, etc., to proper shape and size with surface and pedestal grinders and by smoothing parts with belt sander and buffer. May sharpen dies with surface grinder.
  • Installs and adjusts machine parts and tooling.
  • Aligns transfer fingers, carrier or transfer block, die, punch, tec., for proper positioning of fasteners in machine.
  • Adjusts knockout pin for correct protrusion as required.
  • Adjusts cam position and machine speed as required.
  • Adjusts feeder rail and hopper.
  • Loads fasteners into hopper, actuates machine, and inspects sample fasteners to verify correct machine set-up and operation
  • Refines adjustments as required.
  • Loads fasteners into hopper and actuates
  • Observes machine frequently to verify correct machine set-up and operation and to see if hopper needs reloading.
  • Inspects sample fasteners frequently (visually and with gauges) to identify needs for readjustment of machine set-up or replacement of tooling. Removes defective fasteners and returns unworked fasteners to hopper.
  • Readjusts machine set-up and replaces broken or worn tooling as required.
  • Dumps acceptable fasteners from catch pans into tote pans.
  • Records pertinent production data on lot traveler canard and/or into data entry terminal upon completion of order. Records work activity and production data upon completion of work shift.
  • Places travelling documents with completed work and moves pans to holding area for transfer to next operation.
  • Performs routine servicing of machines, such as changing oil and air lines, lubricating, and replacing worn or damaged set screws, bolts, and knockout pins.
  • Provides technical training and assistance to less experienced personnel in this occupation as required.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to use measuring instruments (micrometer, calipers, comparator, etc.)
  • Able to read shop drawings and/or blueprints
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of SPC Manufacturing software.
Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Basic Qualifications:
