Position Description/Overview:


PG's proprietary artificial intelligence technology uses natural language processing and machine learning to combine and understand unstructured text and patient comments, such as responses to open-ended questions on patient experience surveys, adding depth and context to the quantitative data. The Director, Application Development this platform will be responsible for leading a development team performing application development and support functions. This person works with business partners, architects, Application Managers, and others in the IT organization throughout the lifecycle to deliver quality, standards-compliant software specifications, and design.


The Director, Applications Developmentwill help assess the needs of the business and look for innovative opportunities to develop and grow the business through effective use of technology. He/she will investigate feasibility of new technology related requests along with determining best ways to integrate to existing solutions. Based on the breadth and depth of understanding of business needs and processes, this role will collaborate with other teams to determine if solutions currently exist (internally or externally) or whether new solutions need to be developed.


The Director, Applications Developmentworks with other IT and business leaders, architects, developers, and others in the IT organization to deliver quality, standards-compliant software specifications and design. This position reports to the Chief Data Officer (CDO).


Responsibilities



  • Partner with the CDO and other senior leadership to lead and support team members providing technical direction and support in design, development, and implementation. They will also work with members of project teams to ensure applications are developed according to requirements.

  • Work closely with product peers to define functional and technical roadmaps and strategies to implement.

  • Provide project and technology expertise on designated programs and projects.

  • Provide strategic leadership for products and projects for which the team is responsible

  • Prioritize projects and manage team's project portfolio.

  • Determine and manage strategy for environment management, release management, systems support and other related processes.

  • Direct team resources using appropriate tools and processes for request management and resource management.

  • Lead managers through the performance goal setting process.

  • Coach and mentor team members through regular one-to-one conversations to ensure that goals are met.

  • Create/implement/refine team processes, ensuring that processes align with other teams within the department and across IT.

  • Responsible for proactively identifying technology opportunities that impact business strategies and performance.

  • Serve as knowledgeable resource to stakeholders and IT regarding product capabilities, business processes, change impacts and integration with other systems.


Required experience and skills:



  • This position requires a bachelor's degree with 8+ years of IT and business/industry work experience, with at least 5 years of leadership experience.

  • Experience managing both internal team and external consultants to deliver planned initiatives with strong project and program management discipline.

  • Customer satisfaction and continuous improvement mind-set

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred experience and skills:



  • Agile/Scrum experience

  • Experience developing and deploying applications to Cloud infrastructure

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies


Minimum Education:



  • Education/training beyond 4-year program but less than formal advanced degree
