Senior Technologist, Product Development - Pet R&D

REPORTS TO

Senior Manager, Research & Development

POSITION SUMMARY

Product Development Senior Technologists use their understanding and years' experience in science and/or engineering to lead development and qualification for small to medium complexity business initiatives. Among other responsibilities, Senior Technologists often work independently to develop test plans, generate accurate data, and identify and track critical observations. Their work is typically "hands on," at the benchtop, in a lab, in a plant or pilot plant, at a critical site, on a computer or with consumers. Senior Technologists will also occasionally direct the technical work of others and lead cross-functional technical teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Independently develops test plans; generate sound, accurate and reproducible data working hands-on in various settings; make critical observations


• Summarize key findings, recognize and report unexpected results, and recommend next steps; recognize discrepancies and investigate problems with minimal help from resources


• May lead technical readiness for small to medium complexity initiatives


• Communicate results both orally and in writing to supervisor, key project members, and higher levels of management


• Independently work across disciplines, functions and with outside vendors


• Support the R&D team with additional responsibilities as needed

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education

• A Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, or Engineering is required

Experience

• At least 2 years of relevant experience in Research & Development is required; open to consider less experience when combined with advanced (Master or PhD) STEM degree(s)


• Experience with Food, Pet Food and/or Snacks formulation and product development


• Experience with Pet Food and/or Snacks process technologies (e.g. extrusion, thermal processing, and/or baking)


• Coursework in Nutrition is a plus

• Requires knowledge and expertise in own discipline/area of expertise; still acquiring higher-level knowledge and skills


• Strong organizational, critical thinking and creativity skills


• Strong time management skills


• Effective presentation, verbal, and written communication skills


• Proficient in establishing and adhering to procedures


• Work with quality/safety in mind


• Ability to work under moderate supervision within guidelines and processes


• This role may travel up to 25%
