Bi-Lingual Service Coordinator at ALLEGHENY INTERMEDIATE UNIT in McKeesport, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

Job Title: Bi-Lingual Service Coordinator

Position Summary:
Responsible for intakes, individual assessments, coordination, and monitoring of the delivery of service coordination to high-needs Latino Families with language and cultural barriers including: case assessments and management, referrals/coordination to social service, medical, and government agencies (etc.), and linkages with interpretation assistance and English classes to promote long-term self-sufficiency. Individual will supervise navigators, trained natural helpers from client’s communities, who will connect people to services.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Will follow the Family Support Principles.

  2. Screen/meet with clients to determine and assess gaps in service, English proficiency level, medical needs, social service and other needs, provide referrals, and track progress on a regular basis.

  3. Become trained in the Conferencing and Teaming service provision model; competent in using this practice model as appropriate.

  4. Develop individual plans, both short-term and long-term, to include development of English Proficiency whenever possible as well as building competence in accessing services independently.

  5. Coordinate services and referrals with partner agencies, County human service providers, schools, healthcare and government entities, etc.

  6. Coordinate activities of navigators/interpreters and assure proper documentation.

  7. Take part in staff development and training opportunities.

  8. Collect and record data, producing measurable outcomes data, as appropriate.

  9. Perform Exit Interviews during last quarter to determine successes and future plans.

  10.  Participate in delivery of training to external service providers.

  11.  Treat everyone with respect

  12.  Excellent team player with organizational and communication skills.

  13. Participating in on-going training.


  1. Bachelor degree is preferred (Master Degree a plus) in counseling, child development, social work, family relations, education, human services field, and (3) years of experience with immigrant services, service coordination or other social service.

  2. Must have valid driver’s license and access to an automobile.  Current ACT 33/151, 34 and FBI clearances required.

  1. Alert to cross-cultural differences in dealing with foreign-born clients, able to behave in culturally sensitive manner and to respond appropriately to the cultural characteristics of the clients.

  2. Excellent reading, writing & speaking in English and fluent in Spanish.

  3. Experience in translation-interpretation preferred.

  4. Ability to interpret for men, women and children and in many kinds of settings, including medical, school, social service and public benefits offices.

  5. Ability to work collaboratively with and follow direction of service coordination team and to report as required.

  6. Ability to represent service coordination model to build and empower self-sufficiency and to create a more coherent system of services for refugees/immigrants across the County.

  7. Ability to travel.

  8. Ability to comply with the AIU Conduct policy.

Salary:  $30,000.00
