The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

3M is looking for a Data Analyst to assist with a new, high profile application that will improve the existing products within the organization and deliver better healthcare applications.   This application uses a RESTful web interface to identify and maintain patients based on data analytics and statistics.

This is application performs high volume, transaction processing that will extract, scrub, validate and correct key healthcare data based on extensive analysis of patient data.  Therefore, interfacing with a wide variety of other data sources will be necessary as well as statistical packages such as R.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


  • Develop automated data analysis tools and reports to assist operations in proactively understanding health provider data issues and minimize impact to the solution.

  • Development of SQL, including procedures, to analyze data

  • Document, triage, analyze, monitor, and facilitate resolution of complex issues from internal and external clients.

  • Design reports that support the data analysis efforts

  • Collects and analyze data to create summary statistics of performance.

  • Create and publish periodic reports as well as any necessary ad hoc reports.

  • Design and development of efficient queries, stored procedures and function that support these reports

  • Performing GAP analysis and defining solutions to gaps

  • Performing User Acceptance Testing on behalf of Operations and in cooperation with the DEV/QA personnel to ensure that system changes are appropriate and as intended.

  • Involved in QA processes and methodologies (creation of test plans, test documents, and test cases) related to major system changes and delivery of results to client(s)

  • Effectively communicate with development and technical/customer support staff to resolve issues and assist in development of customer facing training material.

  • Support efforts to ensure ongoing delivery of superior results and achievement of service level targets. 

Your Skills and Expertise 
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited university OR High School Diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the software industry in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree education requirement

  • Experience in data analysis using SQL in combination with complex database environments

  • Experience with database development including stored procedures and functions

  • Experience with Excel to present analytical data and result conclusions

  • Experience in generating on-demand and scheduled reports for business analysis or management decision using a strong plus

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:


  • Experience with cloud architectures and large-scale, high volume hosted applications

  • Experience with reporting tools (strong plus)

  • Healthcare industry experience and familiarity with common HL7 and X12 based transactions is a plus

  • Experience with using SQL and/or NoSQL databases in design, development and implementation

  • Experience working in an Agile environment with strong test automation

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas, concepts and information on both user and technical level

Travel: Occasional travel may be required

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Location: Salt Lake City, UT or Remote
