Summary: The Missouri Online Summer Institute (MOSI) Summer School Academic Advisor’s role is to provide support to students and parents to resolve problems that inhibit student learning. The advisor works with enrolled students and their families to ensure the students stay highly engaged in the curriculum and maintain a positive learning experience in the virtual summer school program. The Summer School Academic Advisor will report directly to the Summer School Liaison.

  • Welcome new families into the school by facilitating on-boarding activities to orient students and families

  • Ensure the on-boarding of students is done appropriately through the PEAK platform

  • Establish positive relationships with students and parents through office hours, calls, emails, etc.

  • Facilitate engagement interventions (list will be provided)

  • Plan and facilitate trainings for students and parents to assist them with components and features of the LMS (navigation, schedule, assignments, school calendar, syllabi, etc.)

  • Establish and maintain regular office hours online

  • Actively monitor student progress and assist them by implementing strategies that will help get them back on track (escalate students to the teachers and school’s program POC)

  • Regularly communicate with students and parents about academic standing and course progress (send email, make phone calls, set up online meetings, engage appropriate parties, prepare and facilitate as necessary, etc.)

  • Identify students who are disengaged and develop plans to work with the student and parent to get them successfully back on track to prevent withdrawal

  • Assist students with getting the appropriate help when needed (Customer Care, Tech Support, etc.)

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Required Qualifications:   


  • High school diploma AND

  • Two (2) years of college AND

  • Two (2) years of experience in education OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and related experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and professional experience preferred

Certificates and Licenses: None required

Other Required Qualifications: 


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Organizations skills, multi-tasking abilities

  • Customer service focus

  • Adaptable and comfortable in a fast-paced work environment

  • Experience coordinating academically-oriented clubs and extra-curricular activities

  • Familiarity with the online learning experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); Web proficiency

  • Ability to clear required background check

Desired Qualifications:  


  • Experience coordinating academically oriented clubs and extracurricular activities preferred.

Work Environment: 


  • This is a home-based position; No travel required
