Prudential Financial is seeking a VP, IT Risk - Issues and Exceptions Governance for the Global Technology organization.  Reporting to the VP, Technology Risk, this newly created role will lead a global, high-performing GT operational risk team focused on issues and exceptions management for the enterprise.

The role requires a strategic risk leader, who has implemented and led effective IT operational risk governance programs across a global technology environment and worked in a fast-paced, evolving global business environment.  The position will be based out of Newark, N.J.  

Responsibilities include:



  • Execute central governance processes over enterprise IS / IT standards and compliance requirements  




  • Develop and execute a GT operational risk issues and exceptions capability across the organization that optimizes vertical alignment and horizontal integration with other interfacing functional strategies




  • Own and optimize end-to-end issues and exceptions processes to determine business value of services provided, translate priorities into operational models that streamline processes and lead to better risk management outcomes   




  • Coordinate complex compliance activities and remediations that span GT groups and business unit / corporate functions




  • Oversee exception and risk acceptance processes aligned with established organizational risk appetite, define prioritization and trade off processes that highlight and sequence addressing the most significant risks




  • ​Track and manage all of GT’s risk issues and report on control health for a variety of audiences to drive risk awareness and transparency​ to improve time to remediate identified issues




  • Integrate and optimize GT issue and exception processes with IT risk framework and enterprise governance, risk and compliance (GRC) processes 




  • Provide risk insights, observations and general program management support on IT / IS compliance issues for supported programs and other ad-hoc cross-functional technology projects related to compliance




  • Engage with GT Product Owners to be creative when it becomes necessary to ensure product solutions meet emerging themes and trends




  • Responsible for tight connectivity with CTO, CISO and BU / CF CIOs; confidence to push back and challenge status quo or stand firm, while also recognizing situations that require compromise and more flexibility




  • Set ambitious and clear vision for function; communicate ‘the story’ effectively to key stakeholders




  • Build, lead and develop a high-performing, diverse and inclusive IT operational risk team and provide oversight of management performance routines, working across business and functional lines



Qualifications include:



  • Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated success in implementing, leading, and executing IT operational risk processes that have led to identification and disposition of deviations from standards




  • Strong technical acumen and proficiency including subject matter expertise in multiple IT risk domains; knowledge of risks related to cloud, cyber and information security, computer and network infrastructure, privacy and data security preferred   




  • Strong background in executing complex risk assessments that would include identifying and determining level of risks related to people, financial, information, technical, third party, etc.




  • Proven record in leading and driving IT operational risk initiatives across multiple functions, teams and geographies




  • Demonstrated success in leading through change, ability to apply cultural and local market considerations in analysis




  • Ability to create, communicate and execute on a strategic vision and purpose




  • Demonstrated ability to influence and effect significant change, including successful track record evaluating and moving forward with emerging technologies, ecosystems and new partnerships




  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to connect, build relationships and influence business leaders, across all levels




  • Exceptional business acumen and strategic thinking skills with proven ability to turn technical content into cohesive and compelling vision/story and easily understood business language for decision making




  • Strong decision-making skills using a high level of judgment to arrive at clear decisions that create sense of urgency




  • Problem solver comfortable with ambiguity to generate multiple solutions to issues and balance upside opportunity with downside risks to generate positive momentum and achieve results




  • Change mindset with passion to find new solutions and drive out of the box ideas




  • Success in building and leading diverse and inclusive teams, not afraid to roll up the sleeves or go outside comfort zone to learn and encourage team to do the same




  • Bachelor’s degree




  • CISSP, CRISC, CISA, and CISM preferred certifications
