Job Description


Can you design and develop sub-systems for mobile machinery? And are you an innovative and motivated engineer who thrives on being involved in systems development from concept to launch? If so, Danfoss Power Solutions in Ames, Iowa has an exciting opportunity for you.

We are looking for a Systems Engineer who will be joining an extremely talented engineering team that develops sub-systems for mobile machinery (e.g. agriculture and construction) utilizing components produced by Danfoss Power Solutions. The team works closely with customers to help them develop some of the best products in their industry. As a member of the team, you will collaborate with engineering teams in America, Europe, and China to create new sub-systems that solve our customers' problems. You will also interact with other areas of the organization including marketing, sales, and operations as you help resolve issues.The position is located in Ames, IA and will require travel activity of approx. 5-20%, including international travel to Europe and Asia.


Job Responsibilities


As our new Senior Systems Engineer, you will, together with the rest of the team, be responsible for the development of system architecture ideas to meet needs and solve customer pain points. Your key tasks will be to:


  • Analyze vehicle solution concepts from a functional, safety and cost perspective

  • Perform computer-based modelling (MatLab/Simulink) of vehicle systems, sub-systems, and components

  • Define and develop the most suited/appropriate control strategy and system architecture

  • Apply component behavior knowledge (e.g. software, pumps, valves, steering, motors) when designing a vehicle system

  • Perform vehicle software development using C, MATLab, or proprietary internal languages (PLUS+1 GUIDE)

  • Develop project value propositions and document engineering results in white papers, engineering reports, trade magazine articles, and conference papers

  • Establish and maintain strong links to other Danfoss Power Solutions groups locally and globally

  • Stay up-to-date regarding your field of engineering and technology relative to Danfoss products

  • Promote quality and continuous improvement philosophy


Background & Skills



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering as a minimum, Master's degree is preferred

  • Working knowledge of mechanical and/or hydraulic and/or electrical systems (including software),

  • 1+ yerasof experience in developing, simulating and validating systems for agriculture or construction machinery

  • FMEA skills, PDP (stage-gate product development process), and Functional Safety Awareness training

  • Strong trouble-shooting skills

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments to complete assignments/tasks on time.

  • Ability to apply creative approaches and ideas to solve problems, maximizing the effective use of appropriate resources

  • Action-oriented, flexible, objective and an excellent communicator with an interest in working across organizational line

  • Proven ability to act as a technical interface to internal and external customers, including working with appropriate stakeholder (e.g. test engineers)
