Under the general supervision of the Assistant City Manager, this position will manage the Building Permits and Inspections Department within the Community Development Department. This position is primarily responsible for plan review and issuance of building permits, inspection of buildings and other structures to ensure compliance with adopted building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and other codes and ordinances; and maintenance of permit records. This position is also responsible for the day to day management of department staff and customer service.

Thorough knowledge of building and construction codes and techniques
Ability to use sound judgment in the interpretation and application of codes and ordinances.
Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, regional and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
Ability to meet and work with people in all types of situations.
Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
Ability to write complete and concise reports that communicate findings and recommendations.
Able to make oral presentations to City Council and other boards as necessary.
Knowledge of basic municipal budgeting principles.
Ability to supervise personnel in an efficient and competent manner.
Ability to perform and manage digital review and record keeping as the City seeks to transition entirely away from paper plan submissions and reviews.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATION
College degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or similar is preferred.
Five- years of experience in municipal building and construction inspection, with two-years in management and supervision.
ICC Building Official Certification required or ability to obtain within on year.
