The purpose of this job is to develop, implement, and support a comprehensive and strategic regulatory policy program designed to advance the organization’s role as a leader, its reputation as an authoritative voice.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & PERCENT OF TIME: Weight = 100%
Regulatory Policy (50%)
Develop and implement a comprehensive regulatory policy program that coordinates applicable policies at the state, local, federal, and international level.
The primary focus is on federal regulatory policy with a coordination/supporting role for state, local, and international.
Build and foster collaborative relationships within federal government agencies to advance the Company’s regulatory agenda.
Review and provide guidance on regulatory proposals, and monitor emerging ideas/themes to determine impact on existing and potential future company products, operations, and profitability.
Author official company comments on regulatory proposals, and work with departments within the company to gather data and information required to support comments.
Develop and propose regulatory policy positions for senior leadership approval, enabling coordinated messaging throughout the company.
Government Affairs (25%)
Engage federal elected officials and staff in the Administration and Legislative branches on issues and policies important to the company.
Monitor legislation that has/could have impact on current and future Company products and overall operations and profitability.
Advise company leaders on impact of legislative proposals and initiatives
Act as lead federal government affairs contact in the absence of the Executive Director, Corporate Affairs.
Other Frequent Duties (25%)
Build and foster collaborative relationships with other departments within the organization and external parties to stay informed and abreast of new initiatives, products, and services.
Act as liaison to trade associations to coordinate messaging and regulatory responses along with Administration and stakeholder interactions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred Education: 4 year bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Communications or related degree. Advanced degree preferred.
Preferred Experience: 7+ years’ experience in government and/or regulatory affairs related position. Experience in fuels or renewables a plus.
Special skills, knowledge, or certifications preferred:
Strong interpersonal skills
Knowledge in energy, environmental or chemical processes and techniques
Excellent communication skills including written testimony and verbal presentations
Good understanding of petroleum and renewable fuel regulations and legislation
