KMHS is Kitsap’s nonprofit, designated community mental health provider for adults with acute and/or chronic serious mental illnesses, and children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. During 2016, KMHS provided services to more than 6,800 children and adults. Special Education Teacher - Madrona Day Treatment.

As a Special Education Teacher, you will provide ongoing, individually tailored educational services for students enrolled in the Day Treatment program. To provide assistance in the implementation of the classroom programming, and participate as a multidisciplinary treatment team member.

WHAT YOU’LL DO


  1. Develop and implement an Individualized Educational Plan for each student. Include curriculum plans with appropriate levels of remediation in core subject areas, behavioral targets, and proposed outcomes necessary for the transition.  Review and amend the IEP for each client as appropriate and on a timely basis.

  2. Develop, implement, and teach academic curriculum and activities to support IEP needs for each student in an accurate and timely manner.  Lead academic groups, lessons, and activities for students.

  3. In collaboration with other treatment team members, assist in the development of an individual treatment/behavior plan for students enrolled in the Day Treatment program. Assist in the implementation of behavioral/intervention plans as outlined in the treatment plan.

  4. Assist the treatment team in meeting students’ social, emotional, and developmental needs by providing a positive, structured, and therapeutic environment. Work with other team members to maintain an aesthetically pleasing and therapeutic environment.

  5. In the event of an absence, ensure that appropriate educational materials and instructions are available to the day treatment staff.

  6. Support the treatment team in the coordination and preparation of materials needed for the transition of students in and out of the day treatment program. Attend transition meetings as appropriate.

  7. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with KMHS programs, school district personnel, and other public or private agencies in order to provide a level of care that is essential for our day treatment students.

  8. Participate in any meetings, case consultations, program staff meetings, and admission/discharge planning meetings as necessary.

  9. Drive and transport clients for daily school activities, field trips, or other activities as necessary.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Special Education required. 

  • Certification in special education in Washington State required.  Certification in elementary education preferred. 

  • Experience working with children with emotional and/or behavioral disorders and their families strongly preferred. 

  • Experience working with children within the structure of an intensive, milieu-based program preferred.  Ability to develop Individualized Educational Plans. 

  • Ability to administer, score, and interpret achievement and diagnostic tests.  Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • Current driver’s license and valid insurance required. Per the RCW 28A.400.303, employees of contractors with school districts that “have regularly scheduled unsupervised access to children” are required to go through FBI fingerprinting.
