Representative Human Resources



Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc. is the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America. The company is vertically integrated from mining through iron making, steelmaking, rolling, finishing and downstream with hot and cold stamping of steel parts and components.



The Human Resources Representative at Cleveland-Cliffs Steel - Cleveland Works is responsible for performing a broad range of HR-related duties on a professional level for the salaried and bargaining unit employees within their assigned departments in the plant. Working closely with plant management and Labor Relations, the HR Representative supports a variety of HR functional areas including recruiting and hiring, training, development, performance management and succession planning, policy implementation, compensation, payroll and benefits administration, employee relations and employee reporting and analysis.



Typical responsibilities of the Human Resources Representative include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Administering the recruiting and hiring program for the salaried exempt/nonexempt workforce in their assigned plant departments pursuant to company policy, including the USA Intern and Associate Program and flex-force temporary contractors. Activities include, among others, preparing job-postings, applicant interviewing, analyzing compensation, interpreting background checks, facilitating pre-placement medical testing, and conducting new hire orientations covering benefits, payroll, and company policies.

  • Assisting with the recruiting and hiring of bargaining unit employees pursuant to company policy and guidelines provided in the Basic Labor Agreement (BLA).

  • Facilitating the company's salaried internal job posting program and BLA-mandated internal plantwide posting program, including selecting qualified candidates and administering all screening hurdles as required in cooperation with plant management and Labor Relations.

  • Administering salaried and bargaining unit employee non-medical and medical benefits from hire to termination, including short-term/long-term disabilities, restricted work analyses as per the ADA, and FMLA, responding to employee inquiries, providing counseling, and implementing employee changes with USA Benefits and providers.

  • Maintaining with USA management employee demographic, headcount, attrition, organizational charts and critical vacancy lists for plant management.

  • Assisting management in the implementation of company policies and procedures, particularly those policies related to employee conduct; Working with management to communicate and enforce policies, investigate potential violations, and offer recommendations in resolution of these matters.

  • Assisting management with the maintenance of the Affirmative Action Plan and all reporting requirements.

  • Assisting management as needed to respond to administrative agencies, including unemployment benefits, the EEOC and other agencies regarding charges and other legal actions.

  • Administering all USA Learning and Development training programs at the plant level, as per our company's performance and career management programs.

  • Administering all USA organizational development and succession planning programs at the plant level with management including workforce planning as per the annual business plan.

  • Providing assistance as needed to process the bimonthly bargaining unit and salaried employee payroll with USA Payroll and plant personnel.

  • Participating in cross-functional committees with plant management in support of operational needs.




Minimum Requirements:


  • Minimum of five (5) or more years of experience in broad support of Human Resource functions (including but not limited to, payroll, benefits, employee reporting and analysis, recruiting and hiring, training and development, and general policy administration).

  • Proficient in using the tools in the Microsoft Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and database management systems.

  • Working knowledge (minimum 3 years) of Ceridian or comparable Human Resources and payroll management systems.

  • Candidates should be organized, detail-oriented, result-driven, excellent communicators and willing to work autonomously, following initial direction and instruction.




Preferred Requirements:


  • Three (3) or more years of Human Resources experience in a large, manufacturing, environment.

  • SHRM - Certified Professional (CP) a plus.
