Job Description and Responsibilities:

Coherent is a world leader of lasers, optics, and sensors for scientific, precision manufacturing, life sciences, and semiconductor manufacturing.

We are seeking a Staff Quality Assurance Engineer who can drive improvements in the quality and reliability of lasers or similar optical systems at the component, sub-assembly and system levels. This demands developing, maintaining and improving a variety of internal Quality Assurance systems and leading by influence to drive quality into the culture of the organization.

Responsibilities


  • Support New Product Introductions and Product Life Cycle management to deliver safe and effective products to the market by ensuring the proper application of design controls, risk management and the investigation/resolution of design/process failures.

  • Represent Site Quality on technical design reviews and sustaining engineering projects. Responsible for compiling and presenting the quality data to key stakeholders/leadership during technical design reviews. Approves on behalf of the Quality Manager.

  • Review and has Quality Engineering approval authority for new and modified design/process specifications including product performance specifications, test methods, etc.

  • Assist in preparation for regulatory and customer submissions and support sustaining quality during internal and external audits.

  • Support process improvements utilizing tools such as Six Sigma or lean manufacturing. Analyze the sufficiency of the Root Cause Analysis and reviews the effectiveness of the Corrective and Preventive Actions.

  • Support the Material Review Board and ensure the timely management/disposition of product non-conformances.

  • Drive the completion of the First Article Inspections (FAIs).

  • Lead or assist in quality improvement initiatives such as process and product characterizations that lead to continuous/cost improvements.

  • Mine, analyze and report data in existing databases to calculate quality metrics and determine trends and correlations between failure modes and process variables. Recommends improvements to the quality standards and procedures when necessary.

  • Support Supply Chain in the development of suppliers and the investigation/resolution of product and process failures.

  • Implement and makes measurable improvements to Coherent's Quality Assurance protocols and processes.

  • Provide guidance and work direction to junior team members on gaging design/techniques and print interpretation reviews.




Education and Work Experience:


  • BS degree, preferably in Engineering or related technical discipline.

  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience or a combination of equivalent education and relevant experience.

  • Relevant experience working in semiconductor, medical, automotive or telco manufacturing/operations.

  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015. ISO 9001 Lead Auditor is a plus.

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer preferred.

  • MS or higher preferred.

  • Experience with test and measurement of electronic and/or optical systems.

  • Good "diplomacy" skills in working with other departments (Engineering, Operations, Marketing). Ability to assertively negotiate mutually acceptable plans and outcomes.

  • Self-motivated to thoroughly document data and test results.

  • Ability to complete several complex tasks in a timely way.

  • Good project management skills. Ability to clearly articulate work plans, schedules, and resource requirements. Ability to effectively direct efforts of others on team.

  • Can effectively communicate work plans, schedules, resource needs. Can organize and communicate data to drive key decisions. Able to present to a wide range of audience, from technicians to senior management.

  • Design of Experiment (DoE)

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC)

  • Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS)

  • Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (Gage R&R)

  • Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)

  • Root Cause Analysis thru Corrective and Preventive Actions (RCA-CAPA)

  • Risk Management

  • Supplier Qualification

  • Internal and External Quality Audits

  • High proficiency on Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Proficiency on Visio, FileMaker Pro, Brio, Minitab, Agile and Oracle are a plus.
