Job Description

The Lead General Clerk provides assistance tothe various positionsperforming day-to-day administrative support operations of the Department of Labor Black Lung contract.

Core Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm (half-hour lunch) Monday - Friday

Wages: $12.74 Hourly


Key Responsibilities


  • Analyzes all filing and mail processing assignments, determines priorities and establishes production schedules


  • Assists in developing and implementing filing and mail processing procedures as required


  • Performs the more complex assignments requiring selection, coding and interpretation of filing and mail processing


  • Reviews and inspects work to assure compliance with job instructions, requirements and other procedural instructions


  • Ensures quality control of completed jobs


  • Instructs new employees in filing and mail processing techniques


  • Assists in determining new employee readiness for more difficult jobs


  • Advises supervisor of scheduling and production problems


  • Notifies supervisor of problems requiring servicing vendor attention


  • Files, classifies, and retrieves material in an established filing system


  • Performs clerical and manual tasks to maintain files as requested, locates available material in files, and forwardsmaterial


  • Opens, sorts and distributes incoming mail that is connected to the work performed under the Task


  • Type's simple and routine correspondence


  • Answers telephone


  • Assists Manager with various duties to keep departments running efficiently. This includes times of Manager absences


  • Performs other duties as assigned in two departments



Required Qualifications


  • US Citizen able to pass a government background check and hold a public trust clearance


  • Candidate must be proficient in communication in the English language (read/write)


  • Must be able to multitask and take direction quickly


  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 25 pounds


  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred


  • Demonstrated aptitude and intelligence in mastering the operations aspects of processing systems


  • Basic office skills are required. Examples of this include telephone usage, working a copier, basic written and verbalcommunication
