Huitt-Zollars' National Capital Regionofficehas anopportunity for a high quality candidate to be our Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing (MEP) Group Leader.This role leads a team of MEP professionals supporting multi-disciplinary design teams in the completion of studies, development of plans and specifications for a broad range of projects. The successful candidate will work on the design team delivering full plans and specifications for a new Bureau and Engraving Production Facility that will be constructed in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.

The successful candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer withat least 15 years of experience in the field of engineering related to mechanical building systems and infrastructure experience including electrical, controls, mechanical, HVAC, plumbingsystems and/or architectural engineering. Candidate must be able to obtain licenses in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Maryland upon request.

This position is located in Alexandria, VA.

Responsibilities

    Provide day-to-day technical and administrative supervision of a team of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineers
  • Supervise and provide quality control for the development of plans and specifications for a variety of projects in the Federal, Institutional, Commercial, and Industrial markets; candidate will have experience with high-performance sustainable systems design, with a holistic, integrated building systems approach

  • Perform whole building energy modeling used to support life-cycle analysis in support of system decision early in the design process

  • Develop project proposals, scopes, budgets, and manage execution and tracking of multiple projects within the group; candidate must have excellent writing skills

  • Direct junior engineers and track performance and utilization

  • Review and understand LEED requirements and verify they are incorporated into the design/construction

Requirements


  • Licensed PE, registration in licenses in Virginia, the District of Columbia, or Maryland is preferred

  • Minimum 10 years of building design experience, with an additional seven years of staff supervisory and project management experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

  • LEED AP, CEM credentials and experience with UFC design criteria are preferred

  • Healthcare design, municipal facilities, and higher education experience is a plus

  • Technical experience in the engineering fields of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection as related primarily to building systems and infrastructure to support buildings

  • Working knowledge of building system codes (IBC, IECC, IFCC, IFGC, IMC, IPC, ASHRAE and NFPA standards); familiarity with Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) a plus

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Proficient in Revit; Bluebeam; AutoCad; with experience in load and energy modeling software (e.g., Trane Trace 700)

  • Must be able to qualify for USACE security clearance

  • Experience in the management and coordination of project delivery of multi-discipline, building-related projects

  • An inclusive, collaborative leadership style

  • Proven communication skills-written, verbal, presentation

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver positive outcomes on projects

  • Ability to motivate, lead, and positively engage with staff

  • Some travel will be required
