The Fleet Manager is responsible for managing logistics and dispatch activities for the Houston fleet (30-35 drivers) while ensuring regulatory DOT requirements. The Fleet Manager will be responsible for managing and coordinating drivers for multiple facilities, ensuring their safety, training, and development. This position will also plan, coordinate, and manage the dispatch and transportation of material to customers, ensuring that customers' needs are met in a timely and efficient manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:
Leadership:
Achieve volume, variable cost, fixed cost, and working capital objectives
Implement corporate and regional initiatives
Integrate all functions by effectively communicating all functional request
Ensure alignment with organizational objectives/strategies.
Implement processes, systems, and new technology to improve effectiveness and efficiency of operations
Develop plans to implement projects in compliance with schedule, budget, regulatory, and strategic components
Customer Service:
Managing customer orders and ensuring orders are met appropriately
Responsive to customer needs and reconciliation of issues
Maximize effectiveness of logistics resources
Sustain regular communication with Sales, Plants, Logistics, and Customers
Managing and Leading:
Manage a fleet dispatcher and 30-35 fleet drivers
Conduct annual performance reviews with fleet and any other direct reports
Proactively demonstrate values and establish standards; integrate corporate core initiatives at department level
Direct and supervise employees; this includes making recommendations on adjusting staffing levels, revising performance standards, employee selection/hiring, utilizing progressive discipline, employee development, etc.
Complete training/certification and information sharing to ensure competency in the teams' roles and decision-making capabilities
Develop and monitor individual/team performance against agreed upon performance standards to ensure the team is productive and effective in their tasks
Responsible for conflict resolution between fleet drivers and others
Demonstrate strong support of organizational culture and core values
Fleet Management and Maintenance:
Direct repair, service, and maintenance of lease and company-owned vehicles and equipment
Develop and supervise vehicle preventative maintenance schemes
Manage and oversee any and all mechanical issues related to the fleet and/or company-owned equipment
Work with outside vendors on issues related to the fleet, lease vehicles, and/or company-owned vehicles
Perform purchasing and receiving duties in regard to activities related to the fleet
Work with dispatch and logistics coordinators regarding driver availability, drivers' hours of service, and equipment availability
Forecasting and budgeting functions related to any and all maintenance
Load Planning and Scheduling:
Interact with internal and external customers and third-party carriers
Lead dispatching activities, including load planning and scheduling for the private fleet and third-party carriers
Act as a liaison between the plants and the terminals regarding sizing, tonnage, additions, and deletions of product shipments to maintain current inventory information
Proactively settle issues before they impact the customer by using logical and creative problem solving

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
Must be physically capable of accessing all terminal locations.
Tolerate outside weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise, and dust.
Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 200 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
Will be working in an office environment, mining, and mineral processing environment.
The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing, and sitting.
Able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
Up to 30% travel will be required driving to lead and support Houston fleet operations.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
HS diploma or GED equivalent.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Five to seven (5-7) years' experience in a supervisory or leadership role in a fleet operation setting..
