Plans, organizes, and directs the overall engineering activities for the Snoqualmie, WA Center of
Excellence. Supporting the primary electro-mechanical needs of the company for eddy current and
ultrasound product lines including probes and mechanical system, related engineer to order (ETO) and
custom projects.
Functional departments include: Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering,
Project Management and Document Control. The Director of Engineering coordinates the creation,
development, design, improvement and sustaining of company products in conformance with established
programs and objectives. Manages research and development activities and the evaluation of their
potential and practicality.
• Develop strategies to meet approved development and financial objectives.
• Develop R&D/product research strategy and direction; identify emerging technologies and their
potential usefulness for Zetec’s Eddy Current and Ultrasound Technology business.
• Support Product Management in providing project estimates on time, schedule, and risk analysis
for roadmap development projects.
• Plan and lead the product development efforts to ensure timelines, technology, budgets, and
resource requirements meet agreed upon requirements.
• Oversee development and maintenance of all production drawings, bill of materials, and
production procedures used by the production teams.
• Interact, coordinate, and collaborate with the Quebec Center of Excellence instrument,
electronics and software leadership and teams.
• Interact with manufacturing, sales, and regulatory representatives to ensure timely transition of
products from development to market launch and to facilitate greater efficiencies and scrap
reduction.
• Assist customers and suppliers in identifying/troubleshooting problems; develop and
recommend solutions that balance the demands for manufacturability and cost.
• Oversee performance of root cause analysis for reported field failures or reported product
reliability issues.
• Develop and mentor direct reports to increase the bench strength and flexibility of the
Engineering function.
• Oversee relevant patent applications and management.
• Organize and maintain appropriate IP documentation files and archives.
• Create, manage, and report engineering department budgets.
• Support Product Managers in financial analysis of the product life cycle.
• Manage contractors, 3rd party providers and contractual agreements.
• Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, direct work.
• Follow all company safety policies and Quality Assurance requirements.
• From time to time extended hours may be required to fulfill the requirements of this position.
• Other duties as required in support of the department and the company.
• This job has direct supervisory responsibilities.
• Oversee a team of 9 Engineers (Snoqualmie and Quebec locations) and a Project Manager
globally.
• Responsible for coordinating employee reviews, setting annual goals and as necessary employee
relations mitigation with the global team, to include but not limited to: rewards, discipline,
complaint resolution and resolving problems.
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent work
experience.
• Ten (10) or more years of experience in an industrial technology manufacturing and engineering
environment.
• Technical expertise necessary to oversee and direct electronic and mechanical hardware design
and documentation development.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience managing professional engineering departments.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
