Location: Texas Medical Center, Houston, TX

Position Type: Full Time/ Exempt

Position Summary:

This position in the Office of Academic Affairs will develop, plan and manage academic advising activities, curriculum development, student scholarship selection process and student outcome data at the MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS).

Position Key Accountabilities:


  • Serves as a primary point of contact for graduate student advising, including academic program requirements and the selection of thesis advisors.
  • Provides high level support of the GSBS Curriculum Committee and to directors of courses in the GSBS core curriculum.
  • Participates in development of Best Practices as relevant to education and curriculum development.
  • Attends education-orientated conferences to research innovative teaching practices and methodology and participates in developing workshops for GSBS faculty on how to implement such practices.
  • Oversees, monitors and tracks the formation of student advisory committees. Monitors committee meeting reports on student progress including evaluation data.
  • Manages student scholarships application and selection process.
  • Records student data in the GSBS student database. Tracks and analyzes data on student learning outcomes.
  • Works closely with internal departments on strategy and collaborative opportunities.
  • Provides high level support for Senior Associate Dean.
  • Other duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:


  • Strong organization skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan ahead, anticipate needs, demonstrative initiative, adapt to changes, and work independently.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with basic MS applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills since this position is a key contact/resource for GSBS faculty and students.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Ph.D. in biomedical science or biological science preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working in higher education administration preferred.
  • Teaching experience in higher education preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
