Hill is seeking an Asssistant Structures Representative in Valencia, CA

Responsibilities:


  • Ensures safety of employees, State employees, Contractor's employees, as well as traveling public by observing contractor's operations and traffic conditions, making recommendations, and taking corrective action when necessary. Reviews contractor operations for compliance with CAL OSHA regulations.

  • Assist in the construction inspection of public works projects involving bridges, buildings, walls, barriers, drainage structures, sign structures and other structures. This includes full-time and intermittent inspections during all phases of construction, including earthwork operations, foundation excavation, pile driving, cast-in-drilledholes piles and other types of foundations; inspection of reinforcing steel, prestressing steel and concrete placement; inspection of concrete forms, shoring, falsework and other construction operations.

  • Takes appropriate action when materials and workmanship are non-conforming.

  • Completes daily diaries of contractor's construction activities being performed, inspections performed, tests taken, and materials placed.

  • Assists in the preparation of necessary records pertaining to construction progress, monthly pay estimates, and job expenditures.

  • Performs construction and engineering inspections, may direct subordinate inspectors. The frequency of inspections is risk-based and include full-time, intermittent, and/or benchmark during all phases of construction. Reviews informational and action submittals, and shop drawings; authorizes shop drawings and action submittals when they are in compliance with the requirements of the approved plans and specifications.

  • Performs required calculations such as alignment, grade (elevation control), quantities of work performed, or materials placed.

  • Able to perform calculations to determine stresses within the various elements of structures (e.g., beams, columns, etc.) and the contractor's temporary works (falsework, shoring, and temporary structural supports, etc.)

  • Inspect materials, workmanship, and/or products. Reject such that are not in compliance with the contract documents and take appropriate action until they are brought into compliance with the requirements of the approved plans and specifications.

  • Monitor and manage all quantity tracking

  • Identifies the need for and prepares contract related documents for submission to the contractor. Reviews CPM schedules. Identifies and mitigates project risks. Completes a project daily diary of pertinent activities and discussions held regarding the progress of the contractor's work and interaction with the Senior Construction Manager.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or another related field.

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer is required.

  • Approximately four (4) years of experience in Construction Management of Heavy Civil Engineering projects.

  • Valid California Class C driver's license.

  • Caltrans experience is desirable.

  • Contractor experience (Project Manager, Superintendent, Engineer) desirable.
