The Senior Programmer Analyst represents a technical and experienced position within Systems and Metrics. The Senior Programmer Analyst provides technical leadership and best practice evangelism insuring the department and company are in the vanguard of innovation. An individual in this position will be responsible for introducing leading edge technologies and methods with the goals of preventative outage detection and improving the customer experience, the individual will not only introduce these techniques but will also follow through with development and implementation and will provide a guidance amongst the technical staff. In addition the Senior Programmer Analyst will also provide support functions as necessary to ensure the stability and continuity of Systems and Metrics systems and processes. They are expected to use strong decision making skills to prevent and resolve all technical and process related issues. They must be able to work independently on tasks of moderate and high complexity and assist the Reporting, Data Engineering and Monitoring groups when necessary. The Senior Systems Engineer is required to assist junior level, newly hired team members and contractors in operational and technical procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Coding and Programming of moderate to highly complex applications and systems.


• Participates and occasionally leads the design of new system architectures and processes to reduce customer frustration and service outages.


• Facilitates and develops integrations between customer facing systems and outage detection / reporting systems.


• Leads technical architecture discussion in new systems and builds.


• Operation, administration and maintenance of production systems, including the networking between servers and other system elements.


• Assists with documentation and proposals of system builds and architectures.


• Initiates some new responsibilities and helps to plan for the future longevity of Systems and Metrics servers and processes.


• Evaluates, monitors and performs performance tuning of the production environments.


• Leads special projects under direction from management.


• Develops and implements improved troubleshooting methodologies for diagnosis and research of system problems.

• Expertise in RHEL Linux, UNIX Administration.


• Expertise in either Java, Python, Perl, C experience with the rest.


• Strong knowledge of scripting languages bash, ksh, tcl.


• Experience with NoSQL platforms MongoDB, Redis, Hive/Hadoop.


• An understanding of Big Data concepts.


• An understanding of networking/routing in a distributed computing environment.


• Ability to solve problems quickly and completely.


• Demonstration of strong decision making skills.


• Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities based on workload.


• Excellent Coordination and time management skills.


• Strong inter-personal and communication skills with co-workers, vendors and customers required.

• systems (UNIX, Linux, Solaris, VMWare and Windows are required).


• Previous experience working in a mid to large site/network.


• Previous experience working in a dynamic, high pressure production environment.


• Previous experience working in systems with large datasets.


• Prior knowledge/experience with NoSQL/SQL applications (Redis, MongoDB, MySQL, Netezza, Hive/Hadoop).


• Prior knowledge/experience with Cable MSO/ISP systems and protocols (DHCP, Syslog, SNMP, TCP/IP, IPDR)


• Industry standard application protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, FTP).


• High availability Systems (Sun Cluster, Veritas Cluster, Load Balancing Systems).


• Degree in Computer Science, engineering, or equivalent work experience is required.


• Flexible working hours, 24 hour on call systems support.
