Expectations


Manages team and workload. Will often be provided with parameters, but not explicit instructions. Identifies issues and suggests improvements to processes, policies, and procedures, and assists in implementing them. Prioritizes, sets, and meets deadlines for self as well as guides direct reports.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities



  • Plans, coordinates, and executes procedures and processes. Ensures staff are appropriately informed and following guidelines.

  • Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and backup support for accounting staff.

  • Responsible for training staff in all aspects of their position, to include instruction on software, processes, best practices, and deadlines.

  • Ensures team members understand property management and accounting goals and inspires collaboration.

  • Performs financial data review of staff work to ensure it meets quality control and audit compliance requirements.

  • Generates, reviews, analyzes, and effectively communicates financial data and results.

  • Prioritizes and maintains organization of a high-volume workload. Monitors, evaluates, and manages workloads of staff.

  • Develops staff and establishes performance goals.

  • Assists Property Accounting Leadership as needed

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities


Directly supervises property accountants. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Performs various personnel functions including staffing, compensation recommendation, approving leave and time worked, and team member development.

Minimal to no travel is required.

Qualifications



  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting (B.A. or B.S.), 4+ years of relevant accounting experience, and 1+ year of supervisory experience.

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually very quiet.

  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

    • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software, preferably Yardi. Must be highly proficient with spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel.
