Responsibilities

New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) deSeversky Mansion seeks a Bartender Captain to provide quality service to our clients and colleagues for events hosted on campus.

Principal Responsibilities:

    Provide attentive, friendly and professional table service to guests creating a memorable dining experience by means of maintaining proper dining etiquette including but not limited to: menu descriptions, order taking, beverage service, delivering items, fulfilling customer needs, removing courses, replenishing utensils, refilling glasses.
  • Assist Banquet Manager in conducting pre-shift meetings to discuss events and delegate responsibilities for the wait staff while ensuring clear communication and direction.

  • Execute events according to the Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) created by the sales team to exceed the expectations of clients.

  • Supervise wait staffin areasof table/buffet /action station setup, stocking service stands, minor food warming/preparation, order taking and delivery of food/beverages to patrons, clearing and resetting tables, according to event specifications.

  • Supervise wait staff to ensure opening and closing procedures are completed accurately.

  • Assist with quarterly and daily training of new hires in service standards and the understanding of the menus and beverage service offered following the SOP standards of the mansion.

  • Prepare and set rooms for clients utilizing floor plans, BEO's, timelines and work plans issued or communicated by leadership. This includes the physical movement of tables, chairs, additional furniture, a/v equipment, linens, dishware, silverware and other catering supplies.

  • Be available to guests at all times during event and meal service period to oversee, but not limited to, your assigned tables.

  • Ensure all servers take mandatory breaks while maintaining the integrity of the service provided for each event by staggering breaks.

  • Ensure proper storage of extra food and report items to Executive Chef and Banquet Manager

  • Identify and cut off alcohol consumption to any guests that have consumed an excessive amount of alcohol and report to your management team immediately.

  • Ensure proper use, storage and maintenance of all catering related equipment.

  • Maintain all equipment that pertains to the service areas such as linens, chafing and serving dishes, glassware, and flatware through Standard Operating Procedures and training.

  • Return all unused props, tables and linens to its designated storage area.

  • Use extreme caution when moving chairs, tables, furniture and glass racks from one room to another in order to protect furniture and walls from damage.

  • Communicate departmental needs, items in need of repair, guest complaints or other deficiencies to the Banquet Manager.

  • Ensure staff members adhere to uniform and grooming standards of NYIT and de Seversky mansion

  • Maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness in all areas of the mansion.

  • Perform basic cleaning tasks as needed and/or delegated by supervisor.

  • Follow opening/closing procedures and checklists.

  • Work with Hospitality server company and Valet Service for utmost professionalism and service to guests.

  • Ability to update or change printed items used for events such as menus, station signs, beverage signs etc. using Microsoft Programs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • Educational Requirements: (High School or Equivalent), or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired

  • Minimum 2 years professional experience within catering facility setting

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include weekends, holidays and 9 hour shifts as business dictates.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of times.

  • Ability to lift and manage trays of food and glasses with weights at times exceeding 25lbs

  • Occasionally lifts items up to 50lbs.

  • Must be willing to work in both indoor and outdoor settings where varying weather and temperature conditions can be expected.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND STRESS.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for extended periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
