JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY

This position plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates diverse community programs for all ages offered at assigned location, including athletic, social, and cultural activities. Work involves opening/closing facilities; organizing and scheduling use of facilities and grounds; coordinating, scheduling, and maintaining records and statistics for programs and personnel at the location; collecting fees and depositing funds; preparing financial reports; conducting facility safety inspections; ordering supplies; maintaining inventory; and attending staff meetings. This position also assists the community athletic councils in organizing and administering their programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs responsible technical work managing the operation of a recreation facility and coordinating facility use; enforces Richland County Recreation Commission (RCRC) rules and regulations.Assists in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating a diverse, community program of recreational, athletic, social, and cultural activities for all ages and ability groups at a specified site.Driving to and from different locations within the agency.Organizes and schedules classes at the recreation center.Collects fees and charges; deposits funds received through park programs; prepares and submits financial statements; and maintains accurate records.Recommends the hiring of part-time staff.Schedules the use of buildings and grounds at an assigned recreation site; and opens and closes facilities as needed.Supervises, plans, organizes, leads, and controls the work of assigned staff.Coordinates, schedules, and maintains related records and statistics for programs and personnel at the recreation center; monitors program effectiveness.Conducts facility safety inspections; prepares and submits maintenance requests; orders and receives facility supplies; makes purchases related to park operations with the appropriate approvals; conducts inventories; and prepares related reports as required.Reports any hazardous conditions of building and/or grounds; follows through with the appropriate action to prevent accidents or injuries.Prepares the activity, accident, and inventory reports.Prepares for and attends staff meetings.Finds new programs that might bring in more patrons of different age ranges.Facilitates after school programs; helps with homework.Performs other duties as necessary.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors degree in recreation, management, business administration, or a related field.Three (3) toFive (5) years of related work experience.Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic financial record keeping.Knowledge of recreation program management.Knowledge of project management.Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing.Ability to develop, plan, coordinate, and direct a wide variety of programs and activities involved in a community recreation program.Ability to define, measure, and evaluate results.Ability to supervise assigned staff, volunteers and park patrons,Ability to prioritize own work and the work of others.Ability to establish or negotiate deadlines.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid Drivers License to drive an RCRC vehicle, and produce an acceptable 10 year driving record.Hold Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification (or obtain within required time frame of hire date).Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred.Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is medium work and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work may also require balancing, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity for data/color/observations/inspections, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is typically performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Requires working extended hours including weekends and holidays.
