DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic Sustainability Coordinator to join our growing team in the Pittsburgh (Moon Township), PA office. The candidate must demonstrate creative problem-solving, organizational skills, strong understanding of AEC sustainability practices, and a thorough understanding of construction documents and constructability. With a current focus on growing Federal, Department of Defense, and International project opportunities, along with market-driven diversification including Healthcare, Higher Education, Private Commercial, Transit, and Aviation, candidate will work in multi-disciplinary, collaborative project design teams with architects, interior designers, civil engineers, and building systems engineers.


  • Support the implementation of sustainability policies and programs for clients, the Pittsburgh AE practice, and AE offices company-wide
  • Conduct technical reviews of internal sustainability tracking and documentation tools, updating as required
  • Accept project assignments from the Sustainability Manager
  • Implement project-specific sustainability plans, coordinating with all team members to ensure client successfully achieves targeted sustainability goals in a timely manner
  • Support and monitor sustainability goals and responsibilities throughout project timelines
  • Lead the sustainability documentation process for projects, assigning responsibilities and uploading documents to the third-party tools (e.g. LEED Online) used to track compliance
  • Perform QA/QC of sustainability documentation prepared by AE teams
  • Coordinate sustainability documentation handoff to contractors
  • Interface with a wide range of internal and external team members, including clients, project managers, architects, engineers, contractors and commissioning agents
  • Coordinate/communicate with third-party certifiers (e.g. GBCI, The GBI) throughout the review process
  • Support sustainability/LEED training for internal staff, including leading one training per year
  • Represent Pittsburgh AE Practice and interface with local and regional sustainability organizations, including Green Building Alliance and AIA Pittsburgh
  • Coordinate with Sustainability Manager to ensure internal goals and processes are met
  • Occasionally assist with projects outside of the sustainability scope

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Bachelor's degree in an Architecture-related field (i.e. Sustainable Building, Environmental Design, Architecture, Engineering, Construction, or similar)
  • LEED Green Associate accreditation (or ability to earn accreditation within 3 months of employment). Alternative sustainability credentials will be considered (i.e. WELL AP, GGP, GPCP, Fitwel Ambassador, etc.)
  • Minimum 6-8 years of relevant experience working on AEC projects; with a sustainability focus preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of high performance/sustainable building design strategies
  • Understanding of common environmental building codes and standards relevant to sustainability (e.g., ASHRAE 90.1, ASHRAE 62, ASHRAE 55, ASHRAE 189.1, IECC/IgCC, GreenGuard, EPD, etc.)
  • Knowledge of U.S. Department of Defense's Tri-Services Sustainability Program preferred
  • Knowledge of other rating systems such as LEED, Green Globes, Living Building Challenge, WELL, etc.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals and work in a team environment
  • Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and proactively communicate progress of task completion
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with multiple competing priorities
  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning and organizational skills are essential
  • Intermediate skills in MS Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
