Job Description:

Position Summary


Responsible for the operations and maintenance of mechanical equipment which includes compression and plant equipment. Ensures that the compression and plant equipment is operated, within safe operating limits, and maintained in compliance with all company policies and procedures and applicable local, state and federal rules and regulations including but not limited to Process Safety Management, DOT and OSHA regulations. Ensures that the compression and plant equipment is set up, operated and maintained in order to maximize return on invested capital in a safe, reliable and efficient manner.

This position performs responsibilities with standardized processes. Works under general supervision. Resolves routine questions and problems using basic principles of functional area. Refers more complex issues to higher levels. Follows established procedures to accomplish requirements of job. There is some latitude for deviation associated with this level.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities


* Conduct scheduled facility operation inspections which include equipment and process readings, flow changes and process adjustments and liquid handling.
* Perform all maintenance on compression equipment under general supervision.
* May be assisted by other compression technicians, if needed.
* Regularly performs a wide spectrum of non-routine, moderately complex assignments requiring technical evaluation, innovation and judgment.
* Under general supervision, troubleshoot, operate and maintain natural gas compression equipment to ensure that planned and unplanned outages are minimized, environmental regulations are met, and to enhance reliability and performance.
* Perform all preventative maintenance programs and procedures of a moderately complex nature.
* Effectively utilize special tools and instruments such as: micrometers, torque wrenches, dial indicators, manometers, peak firing pressure indicators, gas quality monitoring equipment, etc.
* Maintain all records, reports and facilities as required for compliance purposes.
* Monitor and report on equipment performance to meet or exceed equipment run time goals.
* Schedule and coordinate maintenance activities with O&M Leader.
* Under general supervision, perform major repairs and maintenance on equipment.
* Obtain daily compression readings and perform daily inspections and compressor operation activities, including maximizing throughput and minimizing fuel consumption.
* Track and control material inventory.
* Interface with Gas Control and Operations Support prior to and during projects related to compression facilities.
* Ensure Lock Out Tag Out procedures are implemented and followed.
* Ensure Safe Work Permit is required and valid.
* Coordinate and schedule contract personnel.
* Observe all safety requirements and actively participate in company safety initiatives.
* Identify, report and take immediate actions to correct unsafe conditions.
* Assist with projects and job scope preparation in the following areas: new equipment commissioning, capital maintenance projects, equipment retrofits, reliability and efficiency upgrades.
* Investigate, take corrective action and communicate equipment outages in an effort to minimize impact to customer services.
* Provide field support on capital projects involving compression, including assistance with unit assembly, construction inspection, and material handling.
* May perform one or more multi-skilled operations, maintenance and installation duties in addition to the primary roles and responsibilities listed above. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: measurement, electronics, dehydration, treating, corrosion, pipeline, compressor, gas processing plants, amine treating facilities and regulatory compliance functions with direct guidance.

* May conduct periodic "sniff" tests at the extremities of the system to confirm that the gas contains odorant.

Minimum Education & Experience


* Associates Degree/Vocational Certificate or three (3) years' directly related experience.
* Valid State Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities


* Knowledge in electrical wiring diagrams and control schematics.
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance/procedure instructions.
* Ability to communicate and interpret mechanical performance information and diagrams.
* Possess effective communication skills necessary to promote compliance with procedures and cooperation with individuals at various levels throughout the organization.
* Knowledge in the operation, maintenance repair and troubleshooting of various types of compression equipment, plant equipment and troubleshooting repair of all types of equipment pertaining to instrument/electrical trade.
* Proficient in troubleshooting and repair of all types of compression and process equipment.
* Knowledge in medium voltage, electric motor drive and controls.
* Knowledge in turbine engine and centrifugal compressor operation and controls.
* Proficient in electronic controls and troubleshooting.
* Proficient in equipment alignment and base deflection.
* Proficient in troubleshooting and repair of all types of compression and process equipment.
* Basic knowledge in troubleshooting and repair of all types of equipment pertaining to instrument/electrical trade: 4-20mA signal and basic AC and DC knowledge.
* Demonstrated mechanical aptitude in the use of hand tools.
* Effectively use a personal computer with MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel & Outlook).
* Ability to work and participate in a team-based environment to accomplish assignments.
* Operate as a self-starter with individual drive and initiative to start, develop and complete limited scope projects and initiatives. Coordinate scheduling of project work with multiple work teams. Prepare and submit all required documentation with guidance from more experienced technicians and/or supervisor.

Physical Requirements


* Ability to exert in excess of 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 10 pounds of force regularly to move objects.
* May be required to lift seventy-five (75) pounds or more.
* Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, twisting, bending, kneeling, crawling and grasping.
* Ability to move about unrestricted and follow safety and emergency response procedures and regulations.
* May be required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch for reasonable periods of time.
* Ability to travel long distances in a motor vehicle.
* Ability to work in areas with limited access or cramped spaces.
* On a routine basis, may climb ladders, walkways and scaffolds.
* May be required to wear SCBA.
* Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
* Ability to use normal sense of smell to readily detect odorant in natural gas.

Working Conditions


* Ability to work in potentially hazardous environments.
* Ability to work with or near hazardous chemicals.
* Ability to operate personal computer for extended periods.
* Ability to travel frequently via truck (some overnight) to locations throughout the system to monitor equipment and perform work activities.
* Ability to work outdoors in weather extremes and near equipment with potentially high noise levels.
* Ability to carry a cell phone while on-call and respond to call-outs, potentially including weekends and holidays.
* Ability to respond to emergency calls and/or call-outs and return to work while off duty.
* Ability to work overtime (scheduled and/or unscheduled, nights and/or weekends) occasionally, as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
* Based on business requirements, may be assigned to shiftwork.
