The Upstream Product Manager will be responsible for guiding the establishment and refinement of product scope, competitive strategies, and business cases for new and evolving capabilities within Ion’s endoluminal offering.  As member within the upstream product team, you will seek out and collaborate with leading thinkers in clinical medicine, technology, and other disciplines to ensure you bring a leading perspective on the need and opportunity landscape for your areas of focus.  You will collaborate with cross functional stakeholders ranging from clinical development engineering, engineering, design, user experience, advanced product development and others.

Product management with the Ion team requires a combination of breadth, depth and cross-functional collaboration to be successful.  As a key Voice of the Customer champion, you are expected to develop a deep understanding of your market, customer and decision-drivers, and distill actionable insights from the data you and cross-functional partners collect.  Case observation and clinical understanding will be combined with strong strategic and commercial competencies to help you shape new product definition and engage the organization to bring world class products into existence.

The ideal candidate will possess high attention to detail, a strategic mindset, passion for customer satisfaction, a natural inclination towards cross-functional collaboration and communication, and a passion for the mission of improving the lung cancer patient experience and the experience of Ion users.

Primary Responsibilities and Functions:

  • Support new concept definition and a structured entry into the product development process, in partnership with cross-functional colleagues.

  • Manage the final phases of the business review process across the entire Ion product portfolio, including Instruments & Accessories (I&A), Vision, Simulator and Telepresence as well as associated documentation to plan and execute smooth product introductions

  • Develop business cases, go to market & portfolio strategies

  • Establish product requirements via the marketing requirements document (MRD)

  • Test early stage and mature concepts via conceptual and simulated use

  • Identify and mitigate key barriers to product and service adoption.


  • Minimum 10 years of work experience, with at least 3+ years of experience working in product management for medical devices, oncology diagnostics or pharmaceuticals.

  • Background in engineering, product design, product management, or global marketing

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree required, graduate technical or business degrees are preferred

  • Experience working with FDA Class III implantables, interventional devices, oncology diagnostics and therapies or robotic medical devices preferred

  • Demonstrated ability identify and validate market needs, from conception through product launch

  • Experience modeling commercial opportunities, both bottoms-up and top-down

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience in executive presentation
