Job Description Summary

Under the direction of the Grounds supervisor, the grounds keeper is expected to perform related tasks maintaining and improving the facility grounds.

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

• Plant, trim, spray, mow, weed, fertilize, sweep, rake, cultivate, dig, water, shovel or plow now, remove ice, spread salt and/or sand, and other related functions of a groundskeeper with directions from the crew leader.


• Operate and maintain various types of equipment including power mowers, saws, edger, and shears, and perform light maintenance.


• Operate light or medium weight trucks to pick up and deliver materials and supplies.


• Load and unload equipment and other materials, transport to designated locations, utilizing a variety of equipment as needed.


• Prepare athletic fields for special events.


• Assist in snow removal as needed.


• Work as directed by the crew leader.


• Remain up-to-date and informed as to current practices of job-related functions.


• Work with other people that may be contacted in an agreeable manner.


• Cooperate with other people within the department and other department personnel in completing assigned tasks.


• Display the necessary initiative and dependability to work alone or in groups.


• Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with department policies and procedures.


• Attend department meetings as required.


• Participate in before and after disaster programs as directed.


• Observe all departmental policies and procedures.


• Police campus grounds and empty garbage cans as needed.


• Assist in irrigation repair


• Perform other duties as required

Qualifications:

A high school diploma: GED or experiences in the trades beyond minimum requirements may substitutes for education. Minimum requirement of 4 years pervious experiences is required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and /or experience:

High school diploma or GED and (4) years related experience and training, or equivalent.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Possession of valid SC driver's license.

Working conditions:

Environmental Conditions:

Field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, electrical energy; work or inspect in confined spaces, at heights on scaffolding and ladders and with machinery.

Physical conditions:

Essential and marginal functions may require maintain physical condition necessary for walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; heavy, moderate or light lifting and carrying; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing; operating motorized equipment and vehicles; ability to work at heights; near visual acuity to inspect equipment and machinery
