Job Summary

Performs a full range of machine shop work at the skilled trade level, including making new or replacement machine parts. Operates all common machine tools, such as lathe, boring mill, miller, drill press, grinders, etc as well as moden CNC machines. Understands working properties of common metals, reads complicated blueprints, and understands use of coolants and lubricants.

Representative Activities include: Sets up and operates all standard machine tools, Plans and lays out work, Makes parts to close tolerances.

Job Responsibilities

Open to operators of all skill levels -

Level 1 - Should be learning the following under close supervision:

* Operate machines that are presently set up and running.

* When to change cutters.

* How to pre-set tools.

* How to change machine tool offsets.

* How to use operation process sheets.

* How to use batch cards.

* TPS cell routines if applicable.

* How to inspect parts to operation process sheets.

* How to use SPC sheets if applicable.

The following levels require the ability to train at present level and work without supervision

Level 2 - Can perform the following without supervision:

* Operates machines that are presently set up and running.

* When to change cutters.

* How to pre-set tools.

* How to change machine tool offsets.

* How to use operation process sheets.

* How to use batch cards.

* TPS cell routines if applicable.

* How to inspect parts to operation process sheets.

* How to use SPC sheets if applicable.

* Knows basic mathematics.

* Can set up limited pieces of equipment or can change over machines to previously run jobs in TPS cells.

* Can inspect first piece and submit for approval.

Job Qualifications

Required Experience:

* High school diploma or equivalent

* 6+ months of Basic troubleshooting skills; such as identifying tooling issues.

Preferred Experience:

* GKN Experience

* Ability to read blueprints

* Familiarity with the use of measuring devices

* Experience within an aerospace manufacturing environment

Physical Requirements:

* Standing and walking (7-8hrs /day).

* Ability to carry and lift weight up to 25lbs

* Bending, squatting, reaching, pushing, and pulling required (1-2hrs/day)

* Use of hands for fine dexterity, light and strong grasping (At least 7hrs/day)
