Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Any one position may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions within this classification.



  • Disassemble the transmission in order to see what the failure and execute a quality check.

  • Inspect the disassembled parts to identify defective parts.

  • Complete list of parts for replacement to provide a quote to the customer.

  • Rebuild the transmission to customer specifications.

  • Assist other mechanics as needed.

  • Observe safety and security procedures and report potentially unsafe conditions.

  • Inspects defective equipment and diagnoses malfunctions, using test instruments, such as motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.

  • Inspects and verifies dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.

  • Inspects, repairs, and maintains automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery, such as pumps and compressors.

  • Fixing, servicing, aligning, setting up, adjusting, and test machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical principles.

  • Disassembles and overhauls internal combustion engines, pumps, generators, transmissions, clutches, and rear ends.

  • Make precisely coordinated movements using one’s own hands and arms in handling, installing, forming, positioning, and moving materials, or to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.

  • Reconditions and replaces parts, pistons, bearings, gears, and valves.

  • Reads job orders and observes and listens to operating equipment to ensure conformance to specifications or to determine malfunctions.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend service manuals, in order to keep abreast of engineering changes.

  • Ability to observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources.

  • Combining, evaluating, and reasoning with information and data to make decisions and solve problems. These processes involve making decisions about the relative importance of information and choosing the best solution.


  • All other duties as assigned.

Work Experience: (Recommended)



  • Hydraulic Systems

  • Oil Field Equipment

  • Proper Use of Shop Service Tools and Equipment

  • High school diploma/general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Prefer candidates with experience working with transmissions.

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical principles.

  • Ability to utilize hand and power tools and skills to determine the kind of tools and equipment need to complete a job.

  • Ability to manage time in high paced environment.

  • Strong understanding of safety procedures.

  • Must own quality tools.

Technical Skills:  (Recommend at least one of the following)



  • Previous Transmission rebuilding experience

  • Previous Component rebuilding experience

  • Very well rounded understanding on how automatic transmissions as well as hydraulic and gear driven components.

Other Requirements:



  • Purchase and/or Possess Basic Shop Tools

  • Reliable Transportation

  • Current/Valid State Issued Driver’s License

  • Exerts up to 50 lbs of force occasionally. Able to lift 65 pounds from floor to shoulder height rarely.

  • Physical strength and ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor, including frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing, lifting, carrying, and reaching or handling with arms, hand, and fingers.

  • Able to climb ladders or steps/stairs to get to equipment.

  • Will be required on occasion to work more than 8 hours on shift.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to work with fingers.

  • Normal vision with or without corrective lenses.

  • Working in the vicinity of hazardous, flammable materials and solvents and engine exhaust fumes.
