Job Summary:

The primary objective of the Retail Grocery Manager will be to successfully launch HGI’s Healthy Food Initiative Project to increase the health and vitality of downtown Hagerstown with a grocery store in an area with ‘Limited Supermarket Access.’ This innovative initiative will focus on leveraging community partnerships, supply chain, and efficient operations.The successful candidate will embrace the mission of Horizon Goodwill and understand how the Healthy Food Initiative fits into our strategic goals of broadening our contribution to help the community thrive. In a day-to-day capacity, this leadership role will manage multiple store locations with responsibilities including but not limited to sales, staff, merchandising, pricing, maintenance and related store paperwork.

Essential Functions:

Leadership and Management


  • Provide motivation, leadership, and supervision to store personnel and be familiar with and adhere to all policies and procedures.

  • Assist in recruiting and training staff in multiple locations on assigned responsibilities. This includes resolving employee disputes, directing staff, assigning duties, and disciplining staff as needed.

  • Schedule store personnel to ensure adequate coverage, make schedule changes, and cover for store personnel as business dictates.

  • Provide direction and guidance to staff in their assigned job duties and evaluate performance of each staff and provide appropriate feedback.

  • Demonstrate understanding of our mission to develop internal workforce and embrace our culture of continuous improvement and learning.

Operations


  • Reviews and analyzes operational records and reports; uses data to project sales, develops a process for improvement to maximize sales and profitability.

  • Coordinates with inter-agency departments such as logistics and workforce development teams to ensure successful operations and staff integration.

  • Maintain Inventory such supplies and merchandise to ensure that all stores are adequately stocked, and product storage and rotation activities to reduce spoilages and damages with proper tagging and labeling.

  • Setup product displays according to merchandising standards and ensure that stores are cleaned and organized.

  • Educate staff about safety and sanitation procedures and adhere to appropriate regulations of the health department and/or other regulatory agencies

  • Follow and enforce store policies, security measures and customer service standards.

  • Participate in training as required.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:


  • Three years of related managerial experience required.

  • Preferred experience in a Grocery Store environment.

  • Ability to pass pre-hire screenings such as background or drug screenings.

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to fifty (50) lbs., with or without assistance.
