The Senior Director, Corporate Accounting is a key leader in the accounting organization who is responsible for providing oversight of accounting and reporting processes. This position reports to the Vice President, Controller and will be responsible for managing the accounting close process including consolidation of reported results and accounting for shared services and corporate functions. Additionally, this role will be responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that financial reporting information is prepared in compliance with all financial policies.

Key Responsibilities

Provide leadership and oversight to the Corporate Accounting team, including:

• Manage a team of professional accountants and support their day-to-day operations.
  
  
• Responsible for ensuring that the accounting department is staffed with qualified financial personnel capable of meeting objectives and responsibilities.
  
  
• Manage the month-end close timetable and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the required activities, including all journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, accruals, reserve analysis and consolidations.
  
  
• Direct the production of monthly financial statements and all other financial reporting. Provide schedules and commentary with respects to operating results and variances.
  
  
• Lead the coordination of internal and external audits. Responsible for the implementation of agreed upon recommendations resulting from the audit findings.
  
  
• Lead the development and implementation of accounting projects and standards.
  
  
• Accountable for ensuring that internal controls, policies and procedures are in place and being followed.
  
  
• Manage budget and actual processes for corporate departments. Includes working directly with department heads on evaluating departmental results.
  
  
• Responsible for the integration of acquisitions into National Express financial systems and processes.
  
  
• Indirect management responsibilities include working directly with field financial directors and to manage the month end close process.
  
  

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; advanced Accounting/Finance degree preferred.
  
  
• CPA with public accounting experience preferred.
  
  
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and thorough understand of generally accepted accounting principles; exposure to International Financial Reporting Standards preferred.
  
  
• At least 10 years of experience leading accounting teams.
  
  
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all levels.
  
  
• Strong leader with excellent staff management experience.
  
  
• Strong personal initiative, enthusiasm, with results orientation and resourcefulness.
  
  
• Exhibits sense of ownership, and a commitment to achieving the organization's goals and an ability to overcome obstacles.
  
  
• Deadline-focused; well organized with effective problem-solving skills.

• Strong written/oral communication skills.
  
  
• Intermediate Excel Skills & experience with ERP general ledger systems and Hyperion & Smart View.
