Position Summary

This position will provide Materials Project Leader as a key member in the Global Absorbent Development Team.  The role focuses on leading multiple or large, complex material project initiatives across multiple business units in KCNA and/or globally from idea through commercialization.  The role includes developing and implementing absorbent materials for diapers, diaper pants, training pants and adult care products and working with external and internal vendors, product and process developers as well as cross-functional business unit team members.  Responsibilities include understanding and translating customer needs, working with GNW and external suppliers to identify and develop material solutions to meet those needs, prove technical feasibility, and move them through commercialization.  This leader will develop program strategy planning and execution for projects and will be expected to provide frequent updates and communication to business leaders as well as broad cross-functional extended teams.  Additionally, the role will provide coaching and mentorship to team members and be required to interact effectively with managers and technical leaders in the organization. Incumbent will carry out all work ensuring effective Safety and Quality attitudes and practices.  Some travel required (5-15%) to effectively manage projects, execute materials projects with suppliers and mills, and build partnerships.

  • Lead complex material projects throughout all stages of development delivering on commitments and delivering results through project team leadership and effective stakeholder management for projects across businesses in KCNA and global. 

  • Demonstrate material expertise and consult in materials project leadership across Baby, Child Care, Adult and Feminine care business teams to drive initiatives.

  • Ensure documentation and communication of research and development work in areas of responsibility.

  • Apply materials knowledge and translate material solutions across other businesses and products.

Key Responsibilities /Scope


  • Provide overall program leadership for major initiatives or breakthrough initiatives for materials being responsible for moving forward significant efforts from idea through commercialization to realization. 

  • Engage and inspire teams necessary to develop and deliver new breakthrough technologies in a manner that is consistent with KCC culture. 

  • Provide strategic guidance to complex initiatives driving clear and aligned plans and then successfully executing.  

  • Provide coaching and mentoring of team members within projects or programs to enable their successful development and commercialization. 

  • Successfully realize breakthrough innovations through incorporation in SBPs and successful business implementation. 

  • Engagement and communication with the procurement and planning teams to ensure material supply for projects.

  • Ensure clear communications of material plans to key customers and team members.  Share learnings globally.  

Required Qualifications


  • Candidates must possess a bachelor’s or advanced degree in related major scientific or engineering discipline. Alternatively, demonstrated equivalent scientific ability, based on relevant experience (Material Science/Development or non-wovens knowledge) and appropriate education.

  • 10 years+ experience in a variety of R&E product/material/process development roles or other related experience.

  • Previous experience successfully leading projects of moderate to high complexity.

  • Successful demonstration of delivering on complex project deliverables and objectives. 

  • Solid understanding of material properties and their impact on product performance.

  • Strong planning and organizing skills.

  • Strong strategic and executional skills.

  • Exceptional communication skills. Has the ability to effectively translate complex projects to others in a straightforward manner outlining key decisions and recommendations.

  • Strong executional skills resulting in successful implementation of projects and programs with preference given to those who have consistently implemented new technology, material or products solutions putting them on shelf. 

  • Evidence of an acquired solid background of technical knowledge and experience in materials.

Product End Users; Research & Engineering (R&E), Marketing, Sales, World Class Product Supply (WCPS); Legal Department, KCPX Team, Procurement, Product Safety, Quality, Regulatory, K-C Plant Team Members, Global Non-Wovens (GNW) and various external suppliers.
