Fermilab is seeking an Education & Public Engagement Editor. This position presents an exciting chance to coordinate the writing, editing, typesetting, design, layout, for the labs Education and Public Engagement (EPE) Office.

You Will

• Write, edit, typeset and/or lays out assigned Laboratory EPE publications using knowledge of personal computers and a variety of software packages.


• Check assigned publications when complete to assure that all contractual and information requirements are met.


• Interact with authors and other appropriate individuals (both on and off site) to acquire graphics, illustrations, drawings, charts or photographs for inclusion in assigned publications.


• Assemble material for publications and prepare electronic layout.


• Proofread final copy and makes necessary arrangements with printer including writing print specifications and print orders.


• Supervise the distribution of assigned publications.


• Advise Laboratory departments regarding printing procedures, techniques, and copyright regulations under the Laboratory's current URA/DOE contract.


• Records and reports accurate data and metrics for Labwide EPE programming, including participant numbers, participant demographics, attendance numbers, website data, and longitudinal trends


• Handle professional development program accreditation including scheduling ongoing and new courses, coordinating with universities to offer graduate credit, and registering new instructors within the university timelines; supervising local course arrangements, maintaining files, rosters, etc .and submitting annual approved provider report to Illinois State Bureau of Education (ISBE)


• Coordinates with EPE website team to maintain a database of school administrators, district coordinators, teachers and other educational professionals to aid in advertising and increasing participation.

We Are Looking For

• Associate degree in related field with 5+ years of experience OR Bachelor's degree in related field with 2+ plus years of experience. A focus on writing and editing preferred.


• Knowledge of educational structure and systems.


• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills


• Knowledge of Microsoft Office


• Ability to present data to scientific and non-scientific staff.


• Proven competence with varied technical tools and skills


• Outstanding organizational skills with attention to details.


• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
