Truck Planner, Central Logistics, Supply Chain Management



Cleveland-Cliffs is the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America. The company is vertically integrated from mining through iron making, steelmaking, rolling, finishing and downstream with hot and cold stamping of steel parts and components.



As a truck planner at Cleveland-Cliffs Steel, you will be part of a team making steel that goes into products that are visible all around you. Ideal candidates enjoy hands-on, collaborative environments and are willing to seize opportunities to develop themselves.



The ideal candidate will be able to quickly develop an understanding of the different shipping capabilities of our Indiana Harbor facility and work with stakeholders to identify improvement opportunities to become a shipper of choice. In addition, the candidate must be able to navigate through different data sources and information from multiple stakeholders to put in place the best plan to execute on the delivery of the material to the customer.



Responsibilities


  • Ensure that loads are built by our transportation system and scheduled with our carriers in a timely manner

  • Understand the characteristics of a load to secure the appropriate equipment to move the load to its destination and understand the main drivers for aged inventory focusing on variables that are within your control plus working with appropriate groups to initiate plans to ensure inventory ships

  • Monitor, evaluate and analyze the performance of carriers by using performance reports, and work with the suppliers and Procurement to identify areas needing improvement and then establish a plan to achieve the desired results, or to lower our activity levels with the supplier if sustained improvements are not made in a timely fashion

  • Negotiate one-time rates while exercising judicious judgement before approving the extra expenses necessary to meet a customer delivery requirement, and always document your reasoning using the appropriate Cleveland Cliffs tool or system

  • Work with Commercial on rush and shutdown loads to ensure all efforts are exhausted to secure equipment and meet customer delivery target date for required material to prevent undue hardship to the customer

  • Communicate constantly with both internal and external stakeholders to work through logistical issues as they arise

  • Must manage the relationships with the carrier base to expeditiously secure equipment and or re-allocate resources to ship critical loads from the producing mill

  • Achieve a mastery of the basic position duties with a demonstrated capacity for growth

  • Manage assignments and other responsibilities while adjusting to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Make decisions with speed and accuracy based on the available information and experience to optimize resources to achieve results

  • Point of contact for accidents involving in transit material, or for missed shipments and refused loads

  • Run basic optimization models and perform various ad hoc analysis as needed




Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Business or 2+ years of relevant logistics experience

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in Supply Chain

  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills, capable of working within a diverse, cross-functional, internal and external team across different time zones

  • Excellent planning, time management, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with a strong customer service orientation

  • Understanding of logistics and transportation management




Preferred Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management

  • Computer skills - Microsoft Office Products, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Self-motivation, problem solving, and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated work ethic - excellence, meeting deadlines, overtime
