VP, Chief Architect – Personal Risk Services

Position Summary:

Chubb is seeking an IT Chief Architect to join its North American Personal Risk Services (PRS) Insurance division reporting to North America Chief Architect, focused on delivering strategic architectural solutions that enable Chubb to meet its business goals. This PRS Business Unit Chief Architect will report to North America Chief Architect and will work closely with the PRS Business Unit Delivery Team. The Chief Architect will be responsible for delivering conceptual and solution architecture designs across the PRS Application portfolio. The architect will primarily be focused on modernization of legacy systems, migration to a cloud-based infrastructure, data strategy, digital enablement and support multiple business tenants. In this role, the architect will be responsible for the architecture of a new technology stack based on event-driven/sourcing software and data capabilities. The successful candidate will ensure that all solution architectures and new technology acquisitions are delivered through Chubb’s architectural governance review processes and follow established enterprise reference architectures and standards. The architect will also collaborate with regional and global IT partners in architecture and development to deliver future state architectures for the portfolios assigned.

The ideal candidate will have strong business and technology acumen in order to develop sound architecture solutions that will meet and exceed business needs. Skills in application development, insurance policy administrations systems such as Duck Creek, Data Lake platforms and the Azure cloud along with the capacity to adapt to changing technology landscape are essential. Effective communications with IT and Business associates at all levels including senior management will be required. This position may require some travel depending on current assignment, as well as working with global partners in time zones outside of the U.S.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain a solid understanding of the application architecture needs and issues impacting the Chubb’s Personal Risk Services (PRS) Insurance


• Provide end to end application architecture and design for complex business solutions.


• Accountable for developing Chubb’s Personal Risk Services Insurance portfolio and aligning with strategies and roadmaps for both the business goals and Enterprise IT standards.


• Build a strong succession plan of top talent architects to support the growth of Chubb’s technology demand.


• Target the development and use of reusable designs and shared services across process flows and applications• Drive the compliance, promotion and development of software development frameworks, persistence mechanisms, functional libraries etc.


• Lead the application architecture deliverables consisting of multiple disciplines of architecture such as technology, platform and information architecture.


• Drive high throughput, highly scalable and high performing application design while considering constraints dictated by legacy systems.


• Ensure conceptual and high level designs that incorporate the appropriate input and assets from the various platform specialists and domain experts


• Communicate effectively with business partners and stakeholders to assess support needs, assist in the identification of application needs

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

IT Industry Knowledge

• Experience in implementing Policy Admin Systems (in particular Duck Creek)


• Must have strong, recent .Net, node.js and Java technology experience to lead by example and demonstrate the right way of implementing coding frameworks within Azure with the ability to intervene and resolve issues beyond the capabilities of the current team.


• Broad knowledge of API Management, API Design and API security (OAuth, Basic Auth, etc.)


• Broad knowledge of web application concepts, design patterns and technologies (e.g., Single Page Applications, microservices, etc. and integration technologies and patterns such REST, ETL, Event Logs along with Kafka, SOA, MQ, Camel, Camunda, and Spring Boot etc.


• Experience with cloud concepts (IaaS, SaaS, PaaS, microservices, serverless) and major cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure


• Experience with security and Dev Ops best practices, tools and technologies in addition to Data Science, Machine Learning, and advanced analytics technologies, and usage in a large enterprise environment

• Build and maintain an in-depth understanding of business process and products and establish strong working relationships with functional counterparts and vendors


• Define the appropriate set of processes required to support the business objectives and best align to the IT Enterprise


• Create and maintain strong formal and informal lines of communication ensuring consistent and accurate dissemination of information to all stakeholders.


• Use active listening to understand business needs, and recommend the appropriate solutions


• Develop Application Architecture and establish & champion the application architecture strategy, Teamwork, Roadmap and Execution Strategy

• Bachelor's Degree (required) or Master's Degree (preferred)


• 10-12 years of application architecture experience providing business solutions to franchise critical applications


• 3+ years of experience in leading teams.


• Experience interfacing with business partners and performing technology problem identification, troubleshooting and resolution


• Excellent leadership skills, including ability to execute and prioritize a number of tasks simultaneously


• Proven practical experience with analysis, process, and application architecture challenges


• Experience in initiating, conducting and facilitating discussions with multiple stakeholders, and ability to translate the results and issues at hand to the business and to the IT teams


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
