Job Description:



The Project Controls Engineer is a key member of the Meritor’s Corporate Industrialization team. In this role, you will support day to day issues in requirements gathering, technical proposals, design and development of complex equipment controls and MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), and industry 4.0/Smart Factory projects. You will act as the technical lead, as well as an individual contributor on these engagements, contributing to software/hardware architecture design, development of software/hardware applications, and integration into manufacturing process and company-wide enterprise systems

Job Responsibilities:

• Establishes program objectives by analyzing program proposals and collaborating with management.

• Possesses a high level of technical aptitude to provide technical project insight, advice and support.

• Ability to take on a wide variety of job functions within a program including hands-on technical support.

• Establishing program plan by determining time frame, funding, savings, and staffing; approving program schedule.

• Establishes and achieves financial objectives by preparing a program budget; scheduling and approving expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.

• Develops and supports interfaces for equipment communications with shop-floor tools and devices.

• Provides electrical designs and programming within applicable standards to build new or modify existing production machines and systems.

• Responsible for changes to ladder logic and software including, but not limited to: Safety Systems, PLCs, HMIs, Robotics, and PC based logic.

• Confirms program performance by establishing standards; testing requirements.

• Prepares program status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

• Accountable for delivering program objectives.

• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

• Controls program plan and schedule changes. Monitors scope of program/project and the need for management attention.

• Abides and practices corporate and OSHA, ANSI and NEC standards for electrical systems standardization

• Assist with defining MES, Ignition, Apriso and Smart Factory (Industry 4.0) solution architectures and develops detailed design specifications.

• Define MES solution architectures and develops detailed design specifications.

• Provide expert knowledge and experience regarding equipment programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to guide, and sometimes accomplish, technical effort required to implement complex MES solutions.

• Travel requirements up to 50% (Including potential international travel).

• Location is targeted in the Carolinas

• Bachelors of Science, 4-yr degree in Electrical Engineering / Engineering or similar field degree, or equivalent experience is required.

• Minimum of 6 years experience in multiple functions such as manufacturing engineering, operations, materials, quality, sales, and/or program management is required.

• Expert knowledge of complex automation with PLC background, special machines, hydraulics, pneumatics and robotics programming interface preferred.

• Understanding and experience in the Project Management Life Cycle process is required.

• Demonstrated leadership and communication skills are required.

• Hands-on manufacturing involvement in the launch of a new product and/or manufacturing cost improvement project implementation experience is required.

• Experience programming with Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs, Ignition, along with various Robot brands is required.

• Marginal SQL, JavaScript, Python and/or visual basics programming and machine integration experience is preferred.

• Strong knowledge of the Allen Bradley Controls Logix, SLC and Factory Talk software is required

• Must possess strong ability of troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems

• Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering experience is a plus.

• Experience using Concept to Customer methodology or equivalent APQP or Project Management Life Cycle process is required.
