Purpose of Position

This position provides technical expertise at the corporate level to support design, development, implementation and support bearing manufacturing processes for new and existing Timken facilities around the world.

The individual holding this position will provide controls support and occasional design for a variety manufacturing processes and assets including heat treatment, finish grinding, assembly & inspection, automation. packing, etc.

Essential Responsibilities


  • CAPITAL PROJECTS - assist with implementation for Timken's business growth initiatives or technology upgrades to existing equipment and delivery of total cost-competitive processes. This includes: project support, process design/documentation, asset acceptance/startup/training and creation/tracking of Appropriation Requisitions (ARs).
  • PRODUCT/PROCESS RATIONALIZATION - contribute analysis to support global product/process rationalization efforts by performing manufacturing process benchmarking analyses and manufacturing cost comparisons across the plants.
  • STANDARDS/PROCEDURES - adheres to plant standards, technical instructions and procedures in order to ensure that all metallurgical activities are in alignment with corporate requirements.
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT - utilizes appropriate tools/methodology to plan resources and ensure timely completion.
  • CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT - provides technical support for manufacturing CI projects to increase throughput, improve quality/process capability, reduce costs, enhance safety, etc.
  • TECHNOLOGY TRANSFORMATION - assists in the development of implementation plans for newly-developed processes working with Manufacturing, Quality Advancement, Process Technology, Global Material Quality and Product Design & Development as needed.
  • TRAVEL - international and/or domestic travel required to support process start-up.

Technical/Functional Skills Required


  • Demonstrated manufacturing process controls support/ hands on troubleshooting
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to make fact-based recommendations for technical applications
  • Ability to work with cross functional teams
  • Machine Control System Hardware/Software Design - Rockwell, Siemens, GE Fanuc, Mitsubishi PLC and CNC Controllers
  • Motion Control & Robotics Hardware/Software Design - GE Fanuc, Delta Tau
  • Familiarity with national / international machine electrical standards (UL, NEC, CE)
  • AUTOCAD Electrical
  • SCADA and Shop Floor Information Systems

Minimum Qualifications


  • Electrical Apprenticeship or Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering/Technology and 7 or more years in controls design/implementation/maintenance

Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering/Technology and 5 or more years in controls design/implementation/maintenance
