Engineer, Plant Engineering-Indiana Harbor



Cleveland-Cliffs is the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America. The company is vertically integrated from mining through iron making, steelmaking, rolling, finishing and downstream with hot and cold stamping of steel parts and components.



As a plant engineer, you will provide all engineering services necessary to support the Capital Plan at our Indiana Harbor Plant. The services include development/execution of projects to improve costs, quality, or customer service. The engineer's involvement is typically from initial concept development through project implementation such that Client satisfaction is achieved, and the best interests of the Plant and Company are served. The specific projects that involve Capex are directly under the control of the engineering department. Projects that fall under plant expense can also involve the engineering department.



Responsibilities

• Develop and prepare capital appropriations for submittal. This involves establishing project cost savings, developing detailed scopes of work, detailed cost estimates, and supervising contractors in the project implementation.


• Execute projects from inception thru implementation and start up.


• Implement and effectively utilize Cleveland-Cliffs safety standards and practices and conform to Cleveland-Cliffs environmental requirements.


• Maintain and track project budgets and schedules and effectively communicate to management on a regular basis. Ensure that the projects come in "on budget" and are completed "on-time" while delivering project objectives.


• Participate as a member of cross-functional teams in the implementation of Major Capital Improvement Projects and facility rehabilitations.


• Determine what resources are needed (engineering firm, field surveying, material expediting, etc.) to accomplish the intent of the project and arrange to have them available when needed.


• In addition to capital projects, the plant engineer will execute small projects, inspections, which help improve the efficiency, and safety of the facility. Develops recommendations to achieve these desired improvements; works with maintenance and operating personnel to develop and implement solutions.

• Engineering or Computer Science degree with a background in design, procurement, construction and/or maintenance, or equivalent experience


• At least five (5) years of experience in project management of Major Capital Projects in heavy industry


• Extensive experience with heavy equipment and maintenance in an industrial situation.


• Extensive experience with major project scheduling and project cost control

• At least five (5) years of experience in Blast Furnace projects and/or Blast Furnace relines or Blast Furnace Top Changes in the steel industry.


• Extensive experience with all ironmaking operations and maintenance.
