Altec's Core Controls Software Developer group is looking for a Staff Controls Developer to join the team located in St. Joseph, MO. As a Staff Controls Developer, you will develop leadership skills necessary to provide technical oversight within a department and to design, develop, and deploy technologies and systems for embedded controls on Altec products.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline required

  • ABET EAC certified bachelor's degree in Engineering or a master's degree in Engineering is required for engineering degrees

  • Minimum of four (4) years' experience in an applicable role after earning the Bachelor's degree required
    • Applicable Masters counts as one (1) year of experience


  • Strong C/C++ development experience, including use of open source software components highly preferred

  • Experience developing software for embedded linux devices highly preferred

  • Experience at various stages of developing, deploying, and supporting embedded software products highly preferred

  • A strong understanding of principals of cybersecurity (attack/defend), especially with respect to embedded devices highly preferred

  • Experience with common IoT technologies (HTTPS, MQTT, lamda) strongly preferred

  • Experience with common networking technologies (Wifi, cellular modems, TCP/IP) preferred

  • Experience with common networking services like DNS, DHCP, etc. preferred

  • Experience with virtualization technology such as VMWare, virtualbox, and docker preferred

  • Experience with automation and DevOps technologies such as vagrant, ansible, chef, and puppet preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be able to work with team members and work with minimal supervision

  • Must effectively interact with other associates, departments, operations, distributors, vendors, customers, etc.

  • Must be confident, dynamic, and successful in working as part of a team

  • Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time, potentially on short notice, which may include flying

Potential Responsibilities


  • Develops, releases and maintains embedded software in C/C++

  • Creates functional requirements and documentation for software libraries and applications

  • Ensures security of embedded software architectures and designs

  • May do limited development in higher level languages, possibly including Python

  • Provide strong mentorship and technical guidance to other software developers

  • Review software designs and implementations and provide constructive feedback

  • May work in embedded Linux with guidance from manager and more experienced Controls Developers, directs some decisions for the department

  • Practices prudent work methods and effectively apply formal training adding to the overall effectiveness of the Controls Group and enhancement of Altec's position within the product line

  • Participates and contribute productively as part of Altec's team-oriented design, manufacture and customer service/support efforts

  • Operates with some decision-making latitude within the scope of an assignment

  • Knows and applies fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in the controls field

  • As directed, may assign work to others

  • Communicates with customers on issues of technical specifications, product design and operation as appropriate

  • Supports Operations, Sales, and Service

  • Interfaces directly with Suppliers and Customers

  • Utilizes Lean principles to improve our products and processes

  • Manages various sizes of Altec projects and/or act as Team Lead

  • Additionally, may have 3 or fewer direct reports
