Altec has an exciting opportunity for an Engineer on the Altec Worldwide Engineering Team. The engineer will support inside and outside sales managers, end-users, customers and distributors outside of the United States and Canada. Position would be domiciled at the Roanoke, VA Altec facility in the US.

Contribute in a variety of areas focused on installation of Altec equipment on Non-US chassis overseas.
Have a hands-on approach to solving problems and continuous improvement.
Work on many different product lines at Altec. (Aerials, Digger and Cranes).
Responsibilities - Design Engineer
Generates 3D and 2D computer modeled drawings for use during fabrication and assembly of the product.
Design, modify, and/or apply components and systems using prudent engineering methods and techniques to meet specified technical objectives on time.
Analyze and solve complex product design, application, manufacturing, installation, and service problems.
Create unique original product designs which may be patentable.
Develop and execute experiments to validate and qualify new design solutions.
Direct other engineers and technical support personnel to carry out specific design tasks.
Analyze competitive product designs and report findings.
Communicates directly with Customers and Suppliers on issues of technical specifications, product design and product performance as needed.
Implement defect prevention procedures or processes in product design or application.
Analyze new technologies for potential application in next generation products.
Support quality improvements in all facets of the company's business.
Collaborate with various teams within the organization to solve technical problems and identify improvement opportunities.
Responsibilities - Final Assembly and Distributor Support Engineer
Generates 3D and 2D computer modeled drawings for use during fabrication and assembly of the product.
Generates weights study to ensure equipment meets the local road regulations.
Determines if the chassis selected by the customer meets minimum engineering specifications.
Works closely with other Applications Engineering teams to design structural and mechanical components and develop custom electrical and hydraulic systems
Interfaces directly with Sales and Customers throughout the entire build process including being involved in pre-build spec reviews and pre-delivery customer inspections.
Collaborates with other teams within Altec to establish and maintain lean principles by being involved in and leading kaizen events to improve our products and processes.
May travel to distributor location overseas to support final assembly installation. Typically, two weeks duration maximum.

Qualifications
The job level can be adjusted at time of hire, if the candidate meets the qualifications for jobs of a more experienced level in the career path.
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required from ABET accredited program.
EIT registration or ability to obtain registration required.
Good analytical, verbal and written skills required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to work with team members and work with minimal supervision.
Must be willing to travel 25% of the time, potentially on short notice, which may include flying internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional language skills preferred. Example Spanish, Chinese, Russian, etc.
Experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience with TeamCenter
Experience with New Product Development
Experience in hydraulics and hydraulic control systems.
Experience in electrical circuit design as it relates to hydraulic systems.
Experience in structural design
Knowledge of SolidWorks
Knowledge of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) ANSYS and/or Simulation.
Professional Engineer License
Experience with Parker IQAN programming'
