Job Description:

A manager position is now available supporting the Individual Life Insurance business.   This role has accountability for both GAAP and Statutory Financial Statements for the Individual Life Insurance business and Closed Block division.  The position is part of the team responsible for accounting policy, management reporting of forecasted and actual results, as well as quarterly/annual SEC filings, Statutory, and Federal Reporting.

The successful candidate will:


  • Develop a deep understanding of GAAP and Statutory insurance accounting policies and principles.

  • Have the opportunity to interact regularly with Senior Management, and will be expected to be an integral part of project teams, including participation in strategy and execution, as well as ensuring proper accounting policies are documented and implemented.

  • Be responsible for Life Captives financial reporting and analysis.

  • Interact and partner with counterparts such as the Actuarial department, Corporate Accounting Policy, Treasurers, Asset and Liability Management, Corporate SEC Reporting, the GAAP and Statutory Consolidation Reporting groups, Legal, Tax, Operations, Risk Management, Internal Audit, and Public Accountants, such as PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Primary responsibilities will include:


  • Determine and document accounting policy for a variety of business unit strategic initiatives, including capital management projects and new products.

  • Manage implementation of new accounting guidance.

  • Oversight and review of financial statements for the Life Captives and presentation of results and analysis to senior management and outside counterparties.

  • Prepare materials to Senior Management in preparation for quarterly Earnings Calls.

  • Ensure all accounting policies are appropriately documented and current.

  • Develop and support internal control requirements to ensure compliance with SOX/MAR and other external accounting policies and standards.

Qualifications:


  • Degree in Accounting or related field.

  • CPA or MBA preferred.

  • GAAP and Statutory reporting experience in the insurance industry including a knowledge of insurance industry GAAP and Statutory accounting policies and concepts.

  • Understanding of insurance-related actuarial concepts and reinsurance.

  • Understanding of investments, including derivatives and financing arrangements.

  • Strong technical, analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities under tight timeframes.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate with others to drive strategy and execution along with the ability to work independently.

  • Ability to work overtime during peak periods.
