Nature Research is a flagship portfolio of journals, products and services including Nature and the Nature-branded journals, dedicated to serving the scientific community.
Locum Associate or Senior Editor, Nature Geoscience
Location: London or New York
Closing date: May 27th 2021
Nature Geoscience — a prestigious international monthly journal covering all areas of the Earth and planetary sciences — is seeking a Locum Associate or Senior Editor to join its editorial team for an initial period of 4 months.
The Nature Geoscience team is part of a dynamic editorial and publishing environment that also includes Nature, Nature Climate Change, Nature Sustainability, Nature Communications, and Nature Reviews Earth and Environment. For more information about the journal, visit our website at http://www.nature.com/ngeo/.
The ideal candidate should have a PhD (or equivalent), and should be able to demonstrate a broad interest in areas of research beyond their own expertise. Editorial experience would be beneficial, but is not required.
We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with expertise in atmospheric chemistry and/or biogeochemistry, but we will also consider candidates from other areas of the geosciences.
The successful candidate will play an important role in determining the representation of their field in the journal, and will work closely with the other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including selection of manuscripts for publication, commissioning and editing of Reviews, Comment and Opinion pieces, and writing for the journal. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the scientific community through laboratory visits (online or in person) and international conferences.
This is an intellectually stimulating position for someone with a keen interest in the practice and communication of science, and with excellent interpersonal skills. Broad scientific knowledge and training, excellent literary skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and short deadlines is a prerequisite.
The position is offered on a full-time basis for an initial period of 4 months, and will be located in our London office. All employees are working remotely but you will be required to be based in the office when the offices reopen, also in line with our working from home policy.
Applications should include the following:
1. A cover letter telling us more about you and why you want to join the editorial team at Nature Geoscience as well as your salary expectations and notice period.
2. A CV detailing your education, relevant employment history, and any other achievements that you feel demonstrate your suitability for the position.
