Job Summary:
Incorporates the primary components of expert clinical practice and promotes an error free care environment, consultation, education, research advocate, and assures the provision of quality nursing care to a defined group of patients. Supports and upholds the Hospital Mission, Vision, Values and Guiding Behavior, Patient Bill of Rights, and the Code of Business and Ethical Conduct.
 
Minimum Job Requirements:


  • Master's degree in Nursing.

  • Licensed to practice in the State of Florida.

  • 3+ years as a staff RN in pediatric specialty.

  • Recent Pediatric Nursing experience.


  • CPR: Healthcare Provider


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:


  • Functions as a patient advocate and provides family support. Ensures parent education, diagnosis-related discharge planning, and wellness training (parenting skills).

  • Leads in the coordination of complex care across a continuum of care from admission, transfer, discharge & ensures follow-up call for all patients/families to improve care processes and outcomes.

  • Identifies practice changes and develops unit specific outcome measures related to the hospital strategic plan and reports on these outcomes on a quarterly basis.

  • Obtains, synthesizes, analyzes, and utilizes data from information systems and technologies to improve and/or change current processes to achieve desired outcomes using LEAN principles.

  • Collects & gathers pertinent information to improve care, processes, and recognizes staff. Conduct in-services encompassing different shifts and collaborate with team to review case studies.

  • Identifies practice changes affecting outcomes and sustains processes and staff compliance.

  • Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures & programs which assure the provision of quality nursing care based upon Evidence Based Practice (EBP).

  • Identifies and develops clinical measures related to strategic plan for data collection report outcomes on a quarterly basis. Participates in the selection of new staff, preceptors, and mentors.

  • Coordinates orientation for new staff members and preceptor development. Completes probationary review and participates in Learning Contract development.

  • Shares and disseminates information within the department & across the institution. Identifies educational needs, makes recommendations for funds & implements programs to enhance performance. 

  • Mentors and engages staff in the development of Evidence Based Practice and research to influence quality of care and improve patient and nursing outcomes.

  • Ensures parent education, diagnosis-related discharge planning, and wellness training (parenting skills).

  • Coordinates and maintains a portfolio of special stories, events to support Magnet, nursing journal, and regulatory bodies.

  • Completes quarterly closed chart reviews and reviews clinical data. Critically evaluates and anticipates risks to patient safety with the aim of preventing medical errors.

  • Remains current and at the cutting edge of trends in pediatric nursing practice specific to the particular specialty. Shares and disseminates information across the institution and the community.

  • Collects and gathers pertinent information to improve care and processes. Functions as a patient advocate and provides family support.

  • Designs, develops, coordinates, and provides an annual educational plan for the quality and safety including a variety of nursing and patient care topics.


  • Conducts in-services and maintains open communication with patients/family keeping them updated with the plan of care. Works collaboratively in all service excellence initiatives.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Specialized teaching skills for specific specialty area.

  • 2 years in a CS, educator, or management position in pediatrics preferred.

  • Ability to demonstrate effective conflict management skills.

  • Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, and co-workers.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions.

  • Ability to problem solve to formulate a plan of care and evaluate the patient's response to care.
