Overview

As a member of a small dynamic department you will wear many hats working on a variety of projects including creating briefing books to support strategic planning, conducting customer research, providing competitive intelligence, and analysing detailed market data working with large data sets. A willingness to learn and execute on the lifecycle of primary and secondary research projects large and small will be key to success.

Report on competitive and market trends, operational developments, and financial performance for key market segments and competitors. Transform and articulate research and analytical findings into business implications that are actionable and attainable to key stakeholders. Consult with business unit partners to identify business needs for research and data, providing or assisting from project plan to presenting findings. Assist in the further development and delivery of an ongoing research program including monitoring and maintenance of intelligence sources, research process and tools.

Responsibilities

    Monitor and report on key market segments; identifying emerging market trends, disruptive changes, potential opportunities and implications to support the business strategy.
  • Conduct competitor research and analysis that provides actionable information to key stakeholders in marketing, distribution, underwriting and risk control. Maintain and develop up-to-date knowledge and documentation of the competitive landscape, including competitor product offerings, features, pricing, and positioning and market share.

  • Provide data analysis linking internal and external datasets to understand market positions, customer lifetime value and growth opportunities by market and territory.

  • Assist with qualitative research including project plan, survey design, survey execution, analysis and report.

  • Consult with business unit partners to gain an understanding of business needs; may identify needs of business through independent analysis. Establish and maintain close working relationships with key cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Assist in the development and delivery of research programs/processes to materially impact acquisition, penetration, and growth goals.

  • Actively monitor intelligence sources (e.g., blogs, media websites, competitors' websites, webinars, and conference sessions) for relevant product announcements, partnerships, financings, and M&A.

  • Develop and maintain a library of intelligence resources and be able to quickly respond to inbound inquiries and requests from key stakeholder groups.

  • Learn to use subscription-based data to report on market, competitive and financial information.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree required. Emphasis or degree in business management, data science, risk management and insurance, finance, mathematics, statistics preferred. Equivalent industry experience may be considered.

  • 3-5 years of insurance industry, research, consulting, or related industry experience preferred.

  • Experience in business intelligence or related area including working knowledge of research concepts for both primary and secondary research and the application of quantitative/qualitative research techniques.

  • Experience using statistical software or Microsoft Access is preferred.

  • Proficiency and interest in working with large datasets in Excel, Access, SAS, etc.

  • Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills with a willingness to ask questions and be curious.

  • Ability to apply quantitative and qualitative analyses and demonstrate the ability to interpret findings and implications.

  • Results oriented and demonstrated self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects small and large.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver presentations and articulate research findings.

  • A willingness to learn and execute on the lifecycle of primary and secondary research projects large and small will be key to success.

  • Demonstrated skill in Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint, excel and/or access.

  • Demonstrate resourcefulness and creativity in thinking

  • Ability to work independently, but comfortable in a collaborative environment with changing stakeholders, effectively organizing and prioritizing work to handle multiple assignments to meet deadlines or requirements.

  • Ability to effectively listen to others, collaboratively share ideas and communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated desire and commitment to continually learn and strengthen knowledge, accept new challenges, and strive for personal improvement/growth.

  • Ability to build effective relationships, identify internal customer needs/expectations, see issues from their point of view; offer practical recommendations.
