Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Nursing House Supervisor will direct and manage patient care and hospital operations in the absence of Department Directors and Administrators on the evening, nights and weekend shifts. The RN House Supervisor will act as the clinical resource by overseeing the delivery of patient care, and will direct and delegate patient care assignments to nursing staff. By coordinating patient care through collaboration with the patient/family and other specialists, the House Nursing Supervisor will also act as the multi-disciplinary liaison between the nursing department and ancillaries.

The House Supervisor will assist in locating equipment, reliving staff, providing medication to nursing units after the pharmacy team is gone, and will schedule OR cases. It is expected for the House Supervisor to be able to assist physicians with various procedures, treatments, and surgical techniques, as well as medication administration. The House Supervisor will be involved in a variety of departments. They will participate in educational programs, Inservice meetings and workshops, and self-management activities. It is important that the House Supervisor be knowledgeable and participate in planning nursing unit budgets.
