As a Health and Safety Engineer you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:


  • Actively supporting Health and Safety (HS) excellence to promote a culture that addresses incidents, near-misses and potential hazards by applying scientific, engineering principles to drive HS risk reduction efforts and compliance activities

  • Taking ownership of plant HS programs & training including but not limited to: Fall Protection, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Machine Guarding, Confined Space Entry/Rescue, Electrical Safety, Fire Protection & Prevention, Static Management, Ionizing & Non-Ionizing Radiation, Emergency Preparedness, Flammable Liquids Handling & Storage, Incident & Hazard Reporting, Industrial Ventilation, etc.

  • Investigating workplace incidents and completing cause map analyses to determine appropriate corrective actions and conducting assessments of high hazard processes in order to reduce risk

  • Participating and/or leading portions of HS self-assessments and/or audits.  Acting as a facility representative during agency inspections, including but not limited to Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA), fire department, and county.

  • Communicating effectively in written and oral forms with peers and others at varying levels within the organization.  Presenting ideas well one on one, in small groups, and to larger audiences by conveying the meaning and importance of HS topics to non-HS personnel and to influence others to take appropriate action based on such information.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have (at a minimum) the following qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Four (4) years of Health Safety program and procedure experience a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:


  • Master’s degree or higher in a science, engineering, environmental health and safety or related discipline from an accredited institution

  • Professional certification(s) such as: e.g., Certified Safety Professional® by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals®, Certified Industrial Hygienist by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene, related certification or willingness to obtain

  • Minimum three (3) years of safety experience working at a manufacturing/production facility including but not limited to the following:

    • Interpreting and applying State and Federal health and safety regulations

    • Project management, implementation and auditing of comprehensive health and safety management systems including Management of Change (MOC)

    • Working on a cross-functional team



Travel: May include up to 5% domestic

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized
