Director Advanced Engineering will be responsible for ensuring GBO worldwide technology development and implementation is aligned with Acushnet Golf Ball business strategic plans. Direct the efforts of the Advanced Engineering team to identify, develop and implement new technologies, equipment and processes which will generate a substantial impact on asset optimization and utilization along with resultant ROI. Participate in the global operational execution of manufacturing strategies for the launch of new products and processes. As a member of the Golf Ball Operations Precision MFG Team, drive the ongoing process of Precision Manufacturing, Six sigma, Lean and Continuous Improvement within Ball Operations. Ensure both internal and industry best practices in methodology and technology are shared, distributed and implemented across the organization.
Direct the activities of Advanced Engineering associates, external engineering vendors, and operations associates to specify and procure or design and implement major cost reduction and product or process improvement projects. Support the Sr. Director in the management of the capital allocation processes for GBO.
Direct the activities of engineers to research, identify and develop new technologies for the manufacture of golf balls. Coordinate with R&D and Operations to develop both short and long-term objectives supporting new processes and equipment design to fulfill either high volume manufacturing requirements, new constructions and/or new materials for golf balls. Ensure appropriate funding for those projects through capital appropriation or expense spending.
Work closely with R&D to identify, develop and design equipment to ensure ability to deliver industry leading products. Direct technology development to enable process flexibility required to produce prototype products in sufficient quantities to satisfy product testing needs
Ensure Best Practices are being shared and implemented across Golf Ball Operations. Lead monthly Engineering meeting and other communications to coordinate BP 3 and BP 4 process development, with inclusion of other facilities as required, maintaining an active history file.
Facilitate GBO Precision Manufacturing Steering Committee and provide guidance for 6 Sigma efforts worldwide
Ensure protection of intellectual property and new proprietary processes developed by Advanced Engineering and obtain appropriate patent protection.
B.S. or M.S. Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is required.
A minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, experience with specification and implementation of automated manufacturing systems.
A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership responsibilities with direct supervision of a multi-disciplined engineering staff. Requires extensive knowledge of automated equipment design tools and controls technology.
